Esphageal spasm

I started to eat dinner Friday evening and my esophagus went into spasm.  It hurt like crazy.  The food got stuck and wouldn't go down or come back up.  I tried to vomit but couldn't.  I tried so hard that my ribs all felt cracked.  By the next morning, I gave up and went to the ER.  They immediately called in a gastrenterologist who put me under and removed a 7 centimeter mass of food which had collected for some time and torn the esophagus.  They had to put clips in it to repair it.  I will have to go back in a few weeks to have it stretched.  If this doesn't help, he said I will have to have additional surgery but didn't say what.  Needless to say, my throat is sore.
