Dug in, Dug out
Snowzilla has come and gone, it's roar was much worse than it's bite, here in Kentucky we only had about 5" fall. As long as I can remember I've loved stories, especially the art of story telling. I love being entertained and entertaining others. I choose my words very carefully when speaking, I usually rehearse what Im going to say in my head before saying it, usually completely ignoring what the person I am talking to is saying. This strange behavior has actually become a useful tactic in my war against lying. Yesterday, I was thinking about something that had happened and how I was going to tell a co-worker about it on Monday. As I began to recount what had happened I had to stop myself and think about it, what I was wanting to tell him was an embellished truth, to make it funnier or more interesting. So by thinking about it first I was able to stop myself from speaking a lie. I've told many many many stories in my life, exaggerated most of them to some degree, not so much for personal gain but to entertain. The point of this for me, is it's alarming how lies can sneak up on you in all kinds of forms, you can concentrate so hard on not telling a specific kind of lie and then "boom" without even seeing it coming, a different type gets a hold of you. Here's to keeping my life and stories non-fiction.
