Doing a good job
Doing a good job is important to me.
I know I live in a community which i came to for fellowship but that illusion of it has slowly chipped away. Perhaps you could say that it's become a more rational interpretation for myself and understanding.
I heard one artist call it 'the sweet illusion', but that's kinda dark.
The one thing I can hold onto here is pride in my work, contributing some thing to the work getting done here at the monastery and affirmed and calmed by the fact that i do it and do it well.
We are amazing here! i feel in great and special community here at DS and you guys are amazing!!

thanks janet! it really is important to me! there's a young priest who is visiting during this camp
week. He's inspired me as he really is motivated by the message of the gospel. I have been
more accustomed to doing the service and conducting confessions. He is young and passionate
and at times it makes me feel like an imposter or incompetent. But I also know that each priest
has his focus and style and nuances. It just makes me wonder or really think about why I am here?
Is it to spread the message daily? (like him?)
Or as I just thought about - to live my truth, safely and with humanity?
That thought may be found where ever I choose to live.

I think it's neat that you have gotten to meet someone with a different perspective, to cause you to think more about why you do what you do, and in a sense, who you Are.
I'm also sure you do a Great job there and are appreciated, even when they don't act like it or tell you.

i'll buy the "sweet illusion" reference for romantic love, chronic divorcees, bachelor/ettes and lovers of the royal we. the sweet illusion also seems to extend to alternate living arrangements such as communes, monasteries and the like. i feel fairly confident that my marriage wouldn't have lasted 46 years with the sweet illusion plan.
i will also second the notion that taking personal pride in living every day to the fullest is far more sustainable.
