Doctor's visit

Today I saw my ob/gyn for a follow up. he says I need to see an endocrinologist about my high levels of prolactin. I don't know what it does, but  I know at high numbers (over 200) are cancerous. I'm at 56. Normal is under 20. So I don't have cancer, but they don't know what is causing it. I also talked to my regular doctor about getting an MRI, but he wants me to see a neurologist about my migraines. I also found out what insurance my doctor takes so Geo can switch to a plan that will get him his surgery. We are not eating nearly as much fast food, so hopefully he's dropped some weight. We won't know until March 31st when he has his appointment. He can't be weighed on many scales because they don't go high enough. But the one at the doctors goes to 600, so he barely makes it in at 567 pounds. But he has been putting effort into getting the surgery... cutting back on soda and watching a bit what he eats. I know he needs to see  a nutritionist before the surgery, so hopefully that goes well. He's going to need to do a major change in lifestyle when he gets the surgery. I remember going to an informational meeting with Geo and I was 280 pounds at the time. I qualified for the surgery as well, but I knew I didn't need it. I knew I could do it with the help of some good friends. Ann, I'm looking at you! And to all of you who read my ranting and raving. *hugs to all*

yes larissa I am always here for you and cheering you on! thank goodness the prolactin isn\'t any higher and you don\'t have cancer. I don\'t know what it id or does either. I think a neurologist is a good idea about the migraines and many foods cause them as well. geo has a huge job ahead of him. my friend had the surgery and had to lose about 20% of her weight before the surgery. she went through many classes and psychology classes to make sure she was a right candidate for the surgery. I wish him luck and with your help I hope he gets it done. I suggest reshearching the doctor, some of them do not do a good job. hugss

I agree with anne. I hope all goes well with your migraines. Find a neurologist maybe, see if your dr. can recommend someone. Migraines are no fun. I\'m glad to hear Geo is cutting back on soda and food. This is encouraging. You keep up your good work with eating and exercise. How is your weight today?

I\'m sorry you\'re having to deal with medical issues, Larissa. Prolactin is a hormone in the pituitary gland that stimulates breast development and milk production in women. To the best of my knowledge, it doesn\'t serve any other purpose. I\'m glad that you don\'t have cancer! My immediate thought was that perhaps it\'s your meds. I don\'t know if you\'re taking any meds these days, but ADs and some APs like Risperdal are notorious for causing increased prolactin levels. I hope that you\'re given an answer soon. Great job with the healthier eating and exercise! I have faith that you\'ll get below the 220 mark soon.

i use caffeine to control migraine. if i don\'t have coffee once or twice per day beginning in the morning, i get a migraine. it works. better than taking pills. the pills i was on 28 years ago for migraine zombied me out, so two cups max of coffee is wonderful. i also avoid aged cheese and red wine. all of the natural stuff works in avoiding migraine.
