do pets change and evolve as time passes?
I was playing with Blue this morning.
I picture him, in order to empathize, as a permanent two year old
and so I've been looking at him as such - trying to keep
him satisfied, not bored, entertained, fed and cleaned...loved.
I was sitting here though thinking that as time passes...does he evolve as well?
Does he evolve like as a matter of time passing where all we humans evolve and grow too?
And do they change for the time of life they are in as well?
I just never thought of the relationship like that.. and
it's making me more engaged with him for sure.
Like I am living along side a sentient being a lot more complex
than I thought.

Yea I think so, I think a lot of animals are more intuitive than a lot of humans realize.
I also think they bond to us and grow to love us more as time goes on

Personally, I believe that humans and pets evolve alongside each other. We form a kind of symbiotic relationship, providing for one another and helping each other out.
don't we have to sometimes like in relationships understand that the other is experiencing something
because they are aging or they're needing something?

Yes, I believe so. Our pets go through stages of life just like we do, and our needs change as we age. Specifically, cats go through six stages: Kitten (up to seven months); Junior (until 2 years old); Adult (3-6 years old); Mature (7-10 years old); Senior (11-14 years old); and Geriatric (15 years+). They have different needs during each stage, and those needs are actually quite similar to humans. Kittens need socialization and training. Juniors, just like adolescents, need guidance and direction. Adult cats require less supervision, but need encouraged to remain active. Mature cats may require special considerations given to physical issues. Seniors and geriatrics may need help getting around, seeing, and hearing.
Also like humans, every cat is unique, and it can sometimes be difficult to understand exactly what they need. For example, purring can mean they are happy, but it can also mean they are in pain, nervous, or trying to manipulate us into feeding them. : ) So, we have to use little clues like posture and tension to understand our furbabies and their overall mood. The same is true in our interactions with other humans. We search for clues in tone of voice, facial expressions, body movements, etc., when people don’t/can't tell us what they need.
