Diverticulitis

Trying to learn how to live with diverticulitis, I eat the recommended 26 grams of fiber each day now, sometimes a little less, no less than atleast 19 perday and sometimes more as much as 34, a mans recommended amount.  I get constipated, then finally go after lower abdomen pains and its a nice well rounded soft (for a lessor word) poop.  then later it turns to diarrhea.  When do I get regulated and how much and where do I expect pain if I am going to have it, what does it mean when I have the pain.  When I am not having pain I feel like I am not supposed to be not having pain, when I do have pain I feel like I need to go to the hospital, please someone tell what daily living with this disease I should expect, so I am not frightened all the time.  I have also started three weeks ago doing the Activia thing and taking a probiotic.  Is there anything I can do to see a regulated (to some extent) daily life.  I know I will have times when I am not regulated but if I am going everyday and it is not the right kind of bowel movement, like soft and easy to push, am I doing OK? Will it change from time to time and the main thing is that I am going daily?

Had one in 2008, had 13 polyps removed, it was not diagnosed as diverticulitis then but since this last bout, they have said it is now and I believe it! My tumy gets hard at the end of the day, I am having pretty much a decent to good BM everyday, sometimes two to three times per day, but can\'t dseem to find the happy medium as far as fiber intake, taking probi and drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day. finding cauliflower and broccoli make me have gas, reading a lot and hoping to win this battle. I cant afford to see a doctor to get another colonoscopy, so I will have to wait till its an ER trip again, No ins. No money.
