Discomfort can be a blessing

What an odd thought, discomfort can be a blessing.  My job has been so supportive of all the physical changes.  Today was the first day of school.  In case you did not know, I used to teach Physical Education, well until this year.  I am so blessed to have an administration who values me and was willing to restructure my job for me.  I now do morning daycare for our school, supervise recess/lunch and a staff of 14, and take care of ordering buses for field trips.  And my administration supports the use of a scooter.
Well, today was the first day of bringing my new mobility changes to to the parent and student body.  I was a little resistant to having them see me in my scooter, however I thought I might as well just get it out of the way day one.  So, I swallowed the discomfort and drove it out to the yard.  In speaking with several parents and sharing how difficult it has been, I had a mom tell me, that my value isn't in my mobility, that I am an important part of the community for who I am and what I bring to our school.  I lost it and started crying.  What a blessing to be loved and valued at the work place for who I am.  I am more than this disease.  I haven't always felt that way.  Today I am happy.

What a great experience. I know this will be a great help to others who need the courage to take the big \"step\" to mobility. Thanks!
