disco........xoxo

hello wall, hello chair.......hello life......are you out there?
woke up in a sweat.......melting like a white bread ice cube..........too hot, too hot baby.  this does not remind me of nights spent on the disco floor, but my memory is pulling me toward the 70's..........yes, i am from that era.  i wore danskins..........yeah, leotards ---- went dancing in them in discos.
we drove to LA one night......my friend Lynda and a couple of other girls (no longer remember their names)....  but off we went to LA to have an adventure.........we had heard of this amazing club from Lynda's friend Frankie & thought we needed to see and be seen. (lol all the way through this, mercy)
oh me oh my, oh what a night ------ wore my black leotard w/a matching skirt........high heels with rhinestone trim.  we got to this place in the middle of wherever it was Los Angeles, CA & parked.........
walked round this building and climbed the stairs......was there a line?  absolutely, it was the late 70's......"night fever, night fever".......big nod to the Bee Gees........we were in a long line that wrapped around the building.  then it shot us up a skinny hallway, straight up a long flight of stairs........up three flights.  everybody talking, fixing their hair, make-up, looking at what everybody else was wearing.........some people seemingly born confident & some people playing that they fit in........never could really tell who was who in that scenario.......we were so young.
at the top of the stairs was a window where they pried a big entry fee out of our young hands........we wanted INSIDE.......we wanted to DANCE.  the club was HUGE.......I can't even explain what it looked like to this small town Iowan.............this LA Club had a huge dance floor.  it was packed, the lights playing on the walls, people, doors and floor.........the music pulsing........"C'mon an dance with me, dance with me......dance with me".......ah Donna Summer........................
we bought fruity drinks in tall hurricane glasses filled ice, dressed out with a long stem of pineapple, cherries, oranges perched on the rim.....sweet, lush.......we thought we were beautiful and exotic......glamorous in our finery drinking outrageous libations.  we were dorks really......lol......the glory of youth.
the DJ BOOTH was crazy cool.  crazy, man...it was 12 feet high.........the top of it was a small stage.  music was blasting in, pulsating the building, it's inhabitants from all directions..........and then a door in a far wall close to the ceiling of the building opened up............a man appeared......no ordinary man, he looked like futuristic DJ of the Future.  Silvery suit......smoke, fog swirling everywhere........he was suspended on wires.......flying from that high up opening down, down, down towards this tall 12 foot DJ Booth Stage........the DJ landed on the top of the booth, dancing and getting the crowd whipped into a frenzy..........music blasting, lights pulsating......bodies gyrating.......youthful fun was a form of insanity.
The club was on several levels, like an auditorium, at dance floor level looking up at the DJ Booth.... or looking down at all this spectacle.  It really was a show.......something straight out of a Broadway Show..........it was showmanship and had a lot of PT Barnum circus revelry feel.  It was pretty fantastic........and yet it was really just a lot of smoke and mirrors.............I'm glad I experienced it......and yet.
I always felt like my soul was safer outside........I could breathe better without that all around me..........despite all the spectacle to distract, to entertain....... there was a kind of danger, a level of discomfort, be wary, be on guard, you are at risk in this jungle.  Within a circle of girls, wearing our disco clothes.........sipping those tall icy drinks we pretended we were beautiful and invincible.......but all I really wanted was the way out.........to the the ocean.......the waves hitting the sand, the sounds of the beach at night.......so i could chase my own thoughts, my own dreams......................................disco was fun, it was more than the polyester, the platforms, the costuming.......it was a time to dance, a time to celebrate and be young.................................but it could never soothe and comfort or hold my imagination the way the ocean could.
all i did yesterday was not very much, i got up to use the ladies' just now. the pain ripping through the muscles just below my waist is other worldly..........makes me gasp......i am so bent.......is there no escape from this?  it is only a small distance from kitchen, to living, through bedroom to the master bath, but each way of that short excruciating trip........I feel the muscles ripping and tearing.
respectfully i would like to rip out the lungs of those who deign this to be "referrred pain"
it is hellish, a picture that my loved ones rarely if ever see......this bent over, pain filled little nugget of humanity that used to could do so much physically..........dance, climb stairs and run on the beach.......................ice, ice baby has a whole new meaning this last forever and ever chapter of my life............there was a time when i could...........skate, dance, sing............fly though life.......when my muscles were strong, when i had stamina, when i was energetic........when i was healthy.
"last dance......last chance tonight.........this is the last dance, the last chance for romance tonight...........oh ho i need you by me, beside me, to guide me.........so hold me, hold me cause when i'm bad i'm so so baaaaaaaaad..........so let's dance"........remember Donna Summer??????  mercy, i'm laughing, it's not all bad being young, immortal and invincible......................
i've got ice ice baby on the pain spots, not gonna move again til they freeze or the morphine truck comes by.........wouldn't that be something?  sorry right now, i would take a shot of pain killer, act goofy as all get out , suffer the hives and just escape the pain for a bit..........
p.s. last night i watched "Chicago in Chicago".............that was a happy maker.  my "whistle" is broken......when did that happen?  i can't whistle anymore.........how old am I?

Hi, our youthful experiences are great to revisit! I do remember the fun and excitement of going out and having the agility to dance and climb trees ( yes, I was quite a tomboy!) I was better than climbing the trees than the boys!
Sometimes all you need to be back ther is the right music to stirr the memories and to close your eyes! I just missed out on the flower power hippy thing! The eighties was my decade for going out and having fun...
I hope the pain subsides soon!
Gabapentin made me loopy. My son pleaded with me to stop taking it! Thankfully the neuropathic pain is nowhere near as bad as it was...
(((Hugs))) (((Hugs))) (((Hugs))) and thanks for your lovely journal!

Wow girl! You did some living! I remember a night at the Limelight in NYC...a dance club built in an old church but this was at least 10 years past the disco era.

I\'m really sorry about the pain :( that totally sucks. Been taking more than my share of ibuprofen lately but that\'s because I\'ve been doing too much.

Kittens and I send hugs to you!

That story took me back. Wayyyyyyyyyyy back! I was such the disco queen. Had my own dance partner and everything. And, oh yes, it was glamorous....and a little bit dangerous!! The crowds, and excitement. It was wonderful! Those were some of the most exciting days of my life. I\'ll never forget them. I was living single, and oh so happy in Florida for ten years. The Disco years. They defined my life for a long time. As I go through the misery of what you describe....oh so well......I can go back in time to Donna Summer, who worked hard for her money, and just love her.....for all that good dancin!!

Hope you can rest well tonite Sparrow, and that your pain subsides. I pray for you often!!!! xoxo

I love it, ice, ice baby has a whole new meaning. Oh my, hilarious. I wish you felt better. Like you did when you were disco-ing. I went to small clubs in the late 80s and it was So Much Fun. We would dance our hearts out and not drink very much, but it was so fun to just be there with friends. And our clubs were nothing like the one you mentioned, but we still enjoyed it. We danced to \"Wild Wild West\" and \"Red Red Wine.\" hee hee. Oh, and \"no parking on the dance floor.\" To this day, every time I see that come up on Pandora, I\'ll message my dancing fool friend about it.

It\'s nice to have those memories. I think. To your black leotard was my faded tight blue jeans with one hugely ripped knee, a tight white tee with a short pink knitted sweater. OR a black mini and over the knee black boots. heh heh

I\'d go back and do it again, wouldn\'t you?
