depressed? figures...
DS friends,
I need your support. I've been struggling for a long time. I have been involved with alot of therapy for a while now, trying to get past some things. In my appointment yesterday I was diagnosed with depression... I basically knew already, but I guess it's different hearing it from a professional. I'm trying to take steps to get better. I don't like feeling this way, but I can't really help it either. It is what it is. I need advice on how to move forward, and support. I'm not sure I can do this myself. Everything just seems overwhelming.

Hi Hannah, We\'re DS friends but not in touch often. I see your latest journal entry from updates & how r u after being dx\'ed? Are you relieved that you have some explanation or disappointed that u have something else to deal with? Lots of people here have experienced depression & I am sure could support u if asked. RA & it\'s dreadful foes are hard to handle, I hope that things will turnaround for you in time. Take care, Anna
I suffer from depression too. As I left it untreated, it progressed into anxiety. I took zoloft for awhile and it did \'nip it in the bud\'. I konw some people don\'t like taking anti-depressants but it has made a difference in my life. My rheumatologist switched me to cymbalta since it not only helps with depression but chronic depression as well. The only downside is you can\'t suddenly go off it, you have to wean down once you have been on it for awhile. Anyway, depression runs in my family and it is definitely a chemical thing. And treatment is so simple and makes such a difference in my life. If you have any questions, let me know. I\'m here for you!
I\'m not sure how I feel about it. Some relief knowing, some fear. It\'s a range of emotions. She\'s leaving medication up to me. I\'m not sure yet if I\'m going to go with it or not.
Hannah, I have 2 friends who have battled depression for years, and each tried to treat with just therapy. Both went on medication in the last 4 years and they\'re both saying they kick themselves for not having tried it sooner. One has since weaned off the meds, and the other is on a low dosage. May I suggest you give it a try. When you\'re at a critical point, it can be a huge help and relief. Hugs, Lisa
