Dealing with legal matters
So I have contacted a lawyer to do the legal work needed to square away the house I inherited. The people that told me they were moving out sort of moved out but left behind stuff which may include some family members. They are staying in the house without paying rent and the one I rented to is not returning my calls or if no longer checking messages with the phone number I have has not called me.
so, I have to get legal aid to get my house back because I can't just go in and start cleaning it and boot the people that are staying there unlawfully out.
I understand the laws are there to protect people from being taken advantage of or used in such a way as to be unfair but now they also protect those that wish to abuse these safeguards as well. If the family members still there were also cleaning the place up and preparing to move out done that would be a different matter and if they would contact me and let me know this is what is happening I would probably have let it go for more time without charging them rent at least until their cleaning deposit was used up. As it is, I have driven by and stopped and looked at the house without entering four times now over two weeks and there appears to be little to no change and what change there is does not seem to be towards cleaning or removing trash or items left behind.
And so I have to take the legal route and hope for the best. First I have to get forms that need to be mailed and a camera to take pictures of things since I don't own a camera. I don't have a fax or printer so need to go to offices to pick up the forms I need. I have to deal with a bunch of strangers and hope they are doing me right. And at some point I probably will have to face the people who are screwing with me and maybe take them to court. It is all very stressful.
Why do seemingly honest and nice people turn around and do something like this? The tenants had been no trouble and as far as I could tell had kept the property in good order up until they decided that they needed to move. It always shocks me how people can be so inconsiderate and hypercritical. I don't understand it.
Obviously my anxiety is starting to weigh more upon me, now, and I am starting to feel sick. I hope that it is handled quickly and with little repercussions as far as the property goes so that it does not cost me too much money to fix it.
Does screaming help? I feel like I want to scream. Argh!
