DBT -rant-
Why is DBT so freekn HARD!!!
This is IMPOSSIBLE!!!
I can't remember practice and actually DO all this !!!
I can't remember it all when I'm calm much less when I'm in "emotional mind" or disregulated or in a melt down.
I keep being told that DBT is the thing. "It's great", "It really helps" "it's the go to for BPD" "people with BPD can live satisfy, productive lives and dramaticly improve they're quality of life through phycotherpy DBT" ....bla..bla..bla....
Than why does it have to be SO damn Complicated and confusing....and difficult.
I CAN'T DO THIS!!!!!

I'm sorry you're dealing with this.
I don't think there is one kind of treatment that fixes everyone. If there was, everyone would be cured.
Can you talk about your concerns with your therapist? Tell her how it's affecting you in a negative way?
There are many more treatments out there. Maybe you need a different kind.
I know it's hard. Try not to be discouraged. It's probably not the right fit for you.
Big hug sweetie
Baby steps are good steps...You don't have to remember everything sweetie
It takes time for any therapy to work
I agree to talk with your therapist
Big hug of peace and calm sent....xo
I give DBT worksheets to my clients for whatever we discussed in session so they can look them over and remember what to do on their own time. Do you think your therapist can provide you with materials like that?
I'm sorry you're dealing with this. It sounds really frustrating. I haven't learned dbt skills yet myself, but I've heard glowing reports as well. Could it be that you're working through it too fast?? New things sometimes take time...
I hope you see some peace and improvement soon
Hang in there.

I have all the workbooks and worksheets and "cheat sheets" ect.
But so far "Distress tolerance module" has only told me how not to act impulsively and be a burden to everyone else.
NOTHING about what I really need to know which is how to turn the volume down on my thoughts and emotions. I'm not typically impulsive. I'm Quite BPD I internalize my extreme anger, fear, distress, whatever.... Until it eats me alive.
I already control my actions.
I need to know how turn off my thoughts and ease my distress.
So far the "distress tolerance module" has only caused me more distress .
:( I will definitely mention it to my therapist as soon as possible.
Have you tried mindfulness meditation sweetie?
It may be worth a try...I've heard somw swear by it
I think for a lot of this it may be practice until it starts to feels natural and that will take time for sure...Big hug of peace and calm
Mindfulness.
Yes that's what my therapist suggested too. There was a section on that we talked about a couple weeks ago.
In my meltdown I completely forgot about it.
The physiatrist told me today that getting overwhelmed and even having a complete meltdown like I did is fairly common when first learning DBT. Because it is very difficult and complicated and very often in complete contrast to the more unhealthy coping skills we've developed throughout our lives to protect ourselves from pain and trauma.
He says the "answers I'm looking for are coming....to not give up....and keep working the DBT system. That it WILL get better. That I will likely always experience episodes of intense emotion, but it will get easier. "
I peaked ahead....there IS another whole module on mindfulness
and something call "emotional regulation" ? I don't know what that is yet.
The fact that you are going to therapy and journaling and putting in the work are all signs of progress. You can do it! HUG
