Day 7 post op

My experience so far and things I have learned. This of course is just from my point of view, yours may be different :)
So far, this ain't so bad! Getting in protein and fluids is not too hard... Sometimes easier than others, but its something I just do. Something I have to do... so even when its not the most pleasurable, I still do it because its important. And every day is a bit easier.
SF applesauce is a must have to put my pills and D3 and biotin in to get them down! Yeah, some still taste like a donkeys butt... but I do it anyways because its important.
I take my thyroid meds at 4:30 am in applesauce (yeah, really!). I've done this for years because there are so many things I cannot take with or near my thyroid meds so this has just made it easier, now its a little more work cause I have to squish it up into the applesauce, but its important so I just do it.
My day goes like this pretty much.
A little before my first protein drink I take my D3 (I am off my BP meds now as a trial run) Biotin and omeprazole (for healing my new pouch) into applesauce or sometimes SF pudding.
About a half hr later I have my 1st protein drink. 8 oz of ff milk and syntrax nectar chocolate. After a couple swallows I eat my 2 chewable centrums and a chewable Vit C. Drinking a bit of the protein shake 1st makes sure they do not hit an empty pouch.
Keep in mind, from the time I get up I have a 24 oz water bottle with me that I am always drinking from. I do wait about 45 min after eating the pills and applesauce or pudding. So by the time 10 am rolls around I have gotten in one of these full or close to it.
By the time I finish off my protein drink, I have in 30 gms of protein and 32 oz of fluids and its only 10 or so.
Drinking and eating stage 2 has not been hard for me most of the time... And when it is, I do it anyways!
I made a big pot of cream of broccoli soup made of broccoli (no duh! LOL!) that I cooked and ran thru my blender, and ff cream cheese and lf ricotta. (the canned was WAY to salty!) and I have been living off that other than the pudding or applesauce or sometimes yogurt. And I am loving it! It has about 7 gms of protein in 1/4 cup, which is what I eat at a meal.
I also add in unflavored protein powder to many things! This am I added half a scoop to my pudding... Its only 5 grams, but all these little bits of protein add up and help me meet my goal of 80 to 100 gms per day.
For lunch I have this soup with a little bit of cheddar cheese melted into it. About 7 gms, so now I am up to 37 gms, 42 gms if I added half scoop of protein pdr to my pudding or applesauce in the am. So, about half way to my goal and my day is only half over.
I always set the timer on my ph for somewhere between 45 min and an hour so I know when I can drink again. (my program is at least 30 min, to an hr)
After its gone off, I should be on my 2nd 24 oz bottle of water (sometimes I add mio or crystal lite)
In the afternoon I have another protein drink. Most often I have Syntrax nectar Cherry Blast mixed in 24 oz of water along with my 2 tbsp of liquid calcium citrate, blueberry flavored. Sometimes I use one scoop (23 gms) or 1.5 scoops (34 gms) depending upon where my #'s are so far.
I consider this my 3rd water bottle of fluids for the day, and upon completion of this I have in 89 oz of fluids and am up to 60 to 78 gms of protein for the day and it is only 3pm or so.
For dinner I have some more soup (7 gms of protein). And of course am usually on my 4th bottle of water, which depending upon how much I get in before bed, puts me in the neighborhood of 100 oz of fluids for the day. And I can tell you.... my pee is nearly clear, my doc would be thrilled! LOL!
If for some reason one of these steps didn't work out, then in the evening I have another protein drink of some kind to insure I have my #'s up for the day.
Before bed I use about a tbsp of applesauce to take my other pill to heal my tummy. I also have a water bottle next to me all night and anytime I wake up I take a drink.
In-between all of this I go for walks... 6 times per day, every day! My walks were only a few minutes long the first couple days, at a week out they are 8 to 12 minutes long each, which adds up to about an hour per day I am walking.
I also bought a dankin stretchy band thing that has handles on the end. Got it on clearance for 6 bucks :). You stand on it, and do arm exercise, you can also stick part of it in your door and use it that way. So, I just have it next to my chair and several times I day I grab it and do a set of bicep or tricep reps.... It all adds up!
Oh, and I also add benifiber to much of my foods just to help keep things real! I also have ground flax and metamucil, but doc says I cannot use that still stage 3.
I'd also like to make note that the ease of eating has been wonderful, yet I am no fool! I know that this is going to change when I hit solid foods! I have been 'warned' by my NUT that it might not go down near as easy and I will get full much quicker... So, I am at least aware this is coming.
The one other thing I do is track everything! I have a little notebook. I use a new page each day. I have boxes to check off for all my pills and vitamins as well as six boxes to check off for my walks. I have columns for protein and fluids. I even have a spot to note my temp and my BM status. Yeah, I know, but you know what, I will ALWAYS be able to look back and see whats going on if something comes up. I also enter my foods into myfitnesspal.com for the day.
I have been averaging between 600 and 800 kcals per day. This seemed like a lot for me so I checked with my NUT and she said she I was doing awesome and was thrilled I was getting in my protein. She said that often when people are getting in less kcals initially it is because they are NOT getting in their protein. And that it was WONDERFUL that I was getting in my protein and that my calories are fine :)
When my doc called to check on me it was awesome to have my little notebook when she asked questions...
As far as the scale.... I had my hubby hide it while I was at the hospital. I refuse to allow myself to have my 'daily happiness' be driven by that damn number! I will weigh when I go in for my check up next week. And after that I am thinking I will weigh once a week.... possibly less often than that.
At this point, my best advice to those going into this is this.
Have a plan, but be flexible! KEEP DRINKING!!
Just do it! Yeah, sometimes it does not taste good, or maybe you are not thirsty... that does NOT matter, you just have to suck it up and do it.
Vitamins... Yeah, its tough to figure out that routine at first... So, figure it out! It just is what it is and taking vitamins is NOT optional, so just do it! Yeah, sometimes your meds might taste like a donkeys butt, too bad... do it anyways.
I just had wls... this is HUGE and I owe it to myself to take this seriously and do it right, so do you!

Sounds like you are doing a wonderful job! I didn\'t keep records like that. Probably should have.
You should write a book about this experience!
