Day 46 post-op

Here I am 46 days post op.... I have this widget on my phone that counts down the days to an event. When I got my date for surgery I of course used it for the countdown. It displays the # of days till, plus whatever title you want to give it. Well, after I got home from the hospital I noticed it then changed it to 'days since'. So I decided to just leave it there. Every time I look at my phone, I see this RNY - Day 46 (or whatever day it might be.) I like the fact it helps keep my head in the game :)
So, anyways... I am thinking, after having some struggles lately I needed to come in here and post some things about my journey of late, some good reminder that this WILL work for me :) (and for you...) if we let it.
> The hours I spent yesterday working on flea bombing our house was a minimum of 6 hrs, cleaning and sweating. Today I feel fine! Yeah, a bit tired and a few sore muscles, but just a tad! I was up at 5 am this morning, doing more laundry, loading and unloading dish washer, etc. etc. 2 months ago today would have been a total rehab day... and yesterday I'd never have been able to get done all I did!
>The day before we went big grocery shopping.... and I walked around for over an hour at the store, came home and put away all the grocery's without having to sit down once! Another success!
>When I go somewhere, I no longer seek out the closest parking space! I just park where ever and walk... no biggie!
> I use to wait in the car often when we'd go places like the post office, or other quick places.... i'd send in my hubby or son. Now I just jump out and go! Shocked my hubby the other day, in fact twice in one day... He's like "don't you want me to just go do it?!" or "you don't have to come in too". But oh yes I do!! Because I can! :)
> While the flea bombs were going off yesterday we went new bed shopping... In one of the stores they had a beautiful full length mirror. When I caught a glimpse of myself in it, I did not cringe! In fact, I stopped and admired myself a bit... this is HUGE for me!! In the past, I would have been mortified and hated what I saw, but not this time! Yeah, I still have a long ways to go... but I could see the progress! I seemed more in the range of normal sized people (big, yes, but not H U G E!). Even my hubby noticed I didn't cringe and then get in a bad mood!
> We ate at Applebees yesterday too. Over the last 6 months I've read many times how people go out to eat and take home much of the food for later... Well, you may know that i've struggled with this post op thing because eating seemed all too easy... And I've thought many times how for me, eating out and taking half home will be so hard to do! So, back to Applebees... I ordered one of their weight watcher dinners of chicken and veggies with a side salad. About 1/3 the way into the meal I start crying. I am trying to explain to my hubby why but had to wait so I could get myself under control... I realized right then and there that I too was taking at least 1/2 my small meal home because I was not going to be able to eat it all! They were tears of joy!
There are so many other little things that I have experienced... Like fitting into 2 denim skirts (no elastic in them anywhere!) that I've not worn in a long time, or laying in bed and as my hand rests on a part of my body, realizing there is less of me there, or crossing my arms and feeling so much bone in my arms now! LOL! Or noticing my collar bones are now showing... and my neck!! I have a neck now! Grabbing my jacket (that I could button up, but only if I was standing up....) and have it overlap by like 6 inches! Not only can I sit down with it buttoned, but comfortably and then some!
Yes, I have melt downs... and rough times... I am working thru some of those weighty issues.... and will continue to do so over the coming months.... Its all part of the journey! :) And I am thinking I am ever so glad I decided to take this ride!
