Day 3 of Vacation
My last vacation for this year started on Friday. I have been looking forward to getting away from work. And yet, I miss it. I keep thinking about random things at work, I keep having dreams pertaining to work. I need to get it out of my mind, it's only fair, I've earned this break.
I know it's anxiety. I know that when I come back next week, everything will be a wreck and there's nothing I will be able to do about it since it's the week of Christmas and it'll be too busy.
I was able to work on all of my tasks before I left, though. The store manager even stopped me and told me to get them done. And I did. I did leave one task undone. It was either work through it, or do everything else. So nobody was probably happy about that, but I have a few supervisors that love doing that task - most of the time they won't let me do it. Hopefully they've cleaned that up by now.
But I can't keep thinking about it all. There's nothing I can do right now. It's my time away. My time to focus on something else - like all the housework that I haven't done because I've been too exhausted or too depressed to think about it. I very much want to get so many things done this week. And maybe that's overwhelming me as well.
I have done very little Christmas shopping. I haven't put up the tree yet or wrapped any of the presents that I have gotten. And this Saturday is my niece's first birthday and it's at my house so I have to prepare for that.
I spent most of yesterday relaxing and doing very little. Today, I want to start preparing what I need to get done this week. I'm going to make a list to help organize it all in my brain. And I'll enlist my family to get some of it done as well.
just writing this all down has helped.

Make the list. Add time to relax to the list.
You have the time, the determination, and the desire to make it nice for your niece's birthday. Setting up Christmas, wrapping presents, and finishing up Christmas shopping - all can be done.
Good for you to see how writing it out is helping you to sort out what you want for your week.
Yes, good idea to leave work alone. And, to remember this-work takes place whether you are there or not. At home, you're it.
Here's to finding your better balance!
