CRAZY WEATHER!

Thursday, 1-29-09:  Whew!  The weather here has really been something!  We missed the big ice storm this trip.....poor Arkansas!  That was us in 2007 and 2008. On my way home from work, Monday, I nearly cried.  I left about 3:15 p.m.  The parking lot was not slick so, no problem.  About five miles down the road the traffic started to back up.  I thought, "Oh no, someone had an accident."  Oh no....it got SLICK!  It just looked like the roads were wet.  I saw an SUV, going the opposite way, spin around, go off the road into a field, and back onto the road.  Right in front of me a semi started to jack-knife!  I was like, "Oh, oh, oh!!!!"  He got it back on track.  I still had seven miles to travel!  I did NOT want to!  But, I made it.  I went about 25 to 30 mph all the way.  It was horrible!   It reminded me of Scott's car accident in 2003.  It was just like that....roads fine....then NOT!  I started thinking about that accident and how serious it was.  And, how badly it messed the "boys" up.  Not just physically, but also mentally.  Only one of the four is what I would call okay.  Three of the four became addicts.  Scott, of course, died from that.  All of them were partially ejected in that wreck.  All of them were seriously injured. None of them (are) were ever the same. Scott was a passenger.  And after that, Scott was in two more severe car accidents and one minor.  He had been assaulted twice, nearly beaten to death on one occasion.  On the other, he almost lost an eye and saw double until the day he died.  As I was thinking about all this, I thought why Scott, who could've died in all of the above incidents, didn't.  And, there was a time when he was about ten....we were sledding behind the tractor.  Craig was driving.  Scott's sled started to go off the road as Craig turned a corner.  Had I not grabbed his rope he would've gone off, head first, into a concrete creek wall. So, I wonder, what did he still have to do that he hadn't done?  What did he finally do that was "the" thing?  Or, did God just say, "Enough!"  Or, were his guardian angels tired?  I know I will never know for sure.  But, I am going to try to think of the positives Scott achieved in his life and of the people he helped and inspired.  Maybe that will help me find an answer. Back to the "now"...  I have been lucky enough to have been off work the past three days.  Tomorrow, Friday, I have to go back.  The roads are mostly clear now.  I enjoyed staying home.  I spent some extra time with Adam.  I did most of my Saturday chores, today.  I looked at antique books just for fun.  I even cooked a bit.  It was nice.  Poor Craig had to work TONS of overtime.  On Monday he worked twenty-two hours.  I felt bad for him being out in the nasty, cold weather.  On the other hand, I enjoyed doing things for me, on my own time.  Selfish????  Maybe.  But, I don't feel bad about it.   I am quite sure that I, many times, have over-extended myself for the sake of someone else.   I am trying to learn not to do that.  I am trying to learn it is okay for me to just be me.  I am trying to learn I actually might be better for other people if I am better to myself.  I am just trying to learn.

I watch that horrible weather on the news and I\'m so sorry for all of you who have to battle the elements. This may sound peculiar but I wonder with all of Scott\'s near misses so to speak if maybe in hindsight you were being prepared for the actual time. Who knows? We will never have the answers so do think the positives that his test was complete. Take care friend. Love Robin

How scary! I am so glad that you perservered and made it home safely. We do not have weather like that often in this part of NC...so I would never go out in it. I think that it is awesome that you are choosing to think of yourself some...I have certainly learned self-preservation over the last couple of years. Good for you! Love to you...Karen

Glad to hear you got home safely. The weather this year just sucks. As time goes on we all begin to look at things differently and it sure is okay to be just you. You are fine. Love and hugs Cathy

I\'m so glad you got home safely! Times like that do bring up bad memories, but I think you are beginning to appreciate the good memories of Scott\'s endearing ways and are beginning to heal more. Kudos to you, for putting yourself first once. We, as Moms and wives don\'t do that enough, and it is a very healthy thing to do,..taking care of yourself. Love, Judy
