CRAZINESS!
7-29-09: Night before last I found out one of Scott and Adam's friends was in a SEVERE car accident on the eleventh of July. I don't know why we hadn't heard. Kenneth was one of Scott's pallbearers. A twenty-three year old crossed a median, went air-born and flew head on into Kenneth's car. That driver was thrown and killed at the scene. Kenneth has been in a coma since the accident. He has multiple broken bones, including both knees and femurs. He is eighteen. I am just sick. It brought up so many memories for me. But, more importantly, right now, is what his family is going through. I went to the hospital yesterday and visited with his mom and girlfriend. Kenneth was heading for another surgery. I don't even know how to process this. Kenneth is one of the best kids I have ever known! He just recently got a job at Sam's Club. Right before that, he took his last big vacation, as a "kid", to Aruba. He came over, as soon as he got back, with pictures and stories. He was planning to get married next year. At first the doctors said he was in an irreversable coma. Now, he has a small amount of brain activity. He is breathing on his own and opening his eyes a bit. But, from what I have read, that is not un-common. I am hoping for the best and trying to prepare for the worst. I do know both his lungs were collapsed in the accident. I don't know how long he was without oxygen. I know brain damage occurs at five to eight minutes without oxygen. The paramedics had to pull his seat out the back window and he was life-flighted to the hospital. They did intebate (sp?) him at the scene. I have read the longer one is in a coma, the worse the outcome. But, I know, that is totally up to God. I hate this! And, this news is back-to-back with the death of my ex co-worker's son. His funeral is tomorrow. He was not quite two. I don't think I will ever understand! On a better note, Adam has an interview tomorrow morning (Thurs.) at Dollar General. It is only part-time but that is okay. He just needs a steady income, no matter how small. He really doesn't have much to pay for. Craig and I spent some time in the pool today. It is VERY humid and quite warm, here. I think it is going to rain tomorrow so I am going to run errands. I heard from one of my Biddy Buddies today. I think they are both coming over on Saturday to plan for our camping trip August 7. I am looking forward to both their visit and the trip. So, I guess this is just life....bad, good, bad, good.......
