country life.
Yesterday I had a front row seat to work progressing in the garden. I was so close to it all.......I could smell the sweet dusky scent of earth. Rich, pleasant.........it was lovely outside in the early morning. Bruce raked and prepared to dig........tools lined up against his big red pick up.
He dug and sipped a cold drink.......I offered him something to drink, but he is always prepared with his own.......he had to put on a hat to avoid the tiny acorn missiles launching themselves at everything including his bald head. Poor man........it's dangerous beneath the big oak.
....had to pause for a moment. Annie & Rio have already been fed, but the homeowner is currently making a burger. something one does not tend to do in main stream life.......have a burger mid morning for breakfast simply because it is possible. who will speak against it here? not the kitties, not me.
i have been more awake in the mornings this week, so i can cook now and have cereal for dinner. food is possible because i made it to the grocery. thursday eve was so exciting........having fresh fruit in the house.......i sliced up a beautiful red apple and tossed the slices into a clear glass bowl .......sat with my feet up watching a show - enjoyed every bite of that fresh juicy apple. i have pears, fresh raspberries and melon too.........it's gonna be a grand week of feasting.
(sara asked what i had been eating - i said it had been interesting for the last couple of weeks......i managed)
after two days of frantic barking, Max has fallen silent. Praise the Lord.........it did occur to me that Max could have been alerting the world that something was truly wrong...and I was so puffed up with irritation that it never occurred to me to see. my kitties can't bark loudly and i felt ashamed for a moment that Max might have been telling a very important story. but while it was happening i was going bonkers.......even bruce said i should speak to the neighbors, and all I could think is that I wished I had a mate to take on the job. Sometimes I relish life in the single lane and others times I abhor it.
as I sat outside on the soft yellow daisy bench i felt grateful that for a short while it was balmy......comfortable, coolness in the air...............a distinct lack of humidity for a few precious hours. i wasn't communicating well.......bruce asked for further decision making and i felt lost, helpless. ...in a lot of pain and as long as i didn't try to think or speak it was ok. i needed to be still and quiet. i told him i was sorry, i was trying to do better, but i felt rough, i was afraid for a sec I might cry, but thankfully God spared me that. The spasms were in a full on assault, I tried a couple of times to rise while Bruce was busy getting plants from the backyard, but i didn't have the concentration or strength. i needed to sit and wait for the green light.
it helped me connect with the land. i listened to the cicadas singing as the breeze wafted through tree branches.......watched a beautiful red cardinal land high above me.........a squirrel ran across a cable, vaulted himself and and safely landed on a branch...........and all around me was the smell of that rich soil........it smelled like hope.
the mondo grass now circles the oak at the front of the lawn. dying hostas rescued from a plant sale - nursed back to health on my patio this summer, now grace the front garden bed instead. bruce planted the irises, the lantana, the peony bushes. he put lots of good black dirt in the holes first to give them good recovery aid. when it gets cooler, the Christmas tree (on the back patio) will be transplanted to the front yard and the bougainvillea will take the place of the tree. it's good to see it coming together......the patio babies grew so much over the summer and now almost all of them are in the earth soon to go dormant until another beautiful spring comes. this came about because God kept telling me to bloom right here and this literal application has provided such joy. bruce paused for a minute and beckoned with his hand ...............beautiful yellow winged butterflies were enjoying the miniature roses.........as i moved i startled a family of lizards on the wood pile.
i told one friend but didn't tell ya'll........a baby lizard entered the home two days ago and i didn't realize that Annie & Rio were having at the poor defenseless little thing. they were being cats.......of all the times to embrace their hunting heritage.......the poor little thing was daid.......da ...id. southern dead is a two syllable word........i scooped up the poor tiny thing in a soft napkin. took him outside and laid him to rest on an early fallen leaf under the boxwoods. covered him with another leaf and observed a moment of silence. it is a horrible way to go............to be batted about by giant ferocious cats. he was definitely the underdog, i know many are skittish of these wee lizards. they seem more to me like miniature dinosaur descendants.....and they like living in the wood pile condo on my front porch.
i need to do something to honor green-eyed Annie........she is 4 years old this month. I don't remember the day. but this is the month she came to live with me back in 2009. Rescued from beneath a car in the parking lot at work........not even as big as my hand outstretched. She was a tiny soft mewling thing........she's my sweet Annie Cat. I promise I will figure out how to make cat cake, (no bear, I will not forfeit the lives of any mice.....!.......mouse cake? i haven't got it in me......getting Rio & I to wear paper party hats is gonna be a problem.....neither one of us like those stretchy bands under our chin. Annie is far too regal to wear a hat ever......a tiara maybe......but not bloody likely.
love to you and you and you and you and you and you and you and you and you and you and you........and you!
p.s. odd factoid of the day:
floccinaucinihilipilification - on the endangered word list
Pronounced: flox-ee-no-si-ni-hi-li-pi-li-fi-cay-shun. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, this is the longest word in the English language. It means "the act of rendering as useless." This word is one letter longer than antidisestablishmentarianism, and contains fewer morphemes.
what in blazes are morphemes? xoxo

Love the closing lesson...............AND, the fact that you can make me laugh regardless of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it is so wonderful how you are able to take in all the beautiful things/blessings around you when you are in pain like that. Not many people can do that, truly. It is something I greatly admire. I\'m sending you a mental tiara/sash and award for Best Keeper of the Positive Moment.
Loved the sad but funny story about the DA ID lizard. Cats can sure dish it out can\'t they? But can\'t take any pestering from anybody in return.
love the endangered word ... that looks like something on the med facts you get when you get a new prescription lol
blaze on my friend, blaze on.
Da id. Yes, I do have a few Southern Belle friends and sure as shootin (which I think most of them do...) dead is da id in the South. I usually have to lip read when I Skype with my Southern friends.
Interesting, mahvelous werd you found there....on the endangered list!! \"The act of rendering as useless\".....Hmmmmm wouldn\'t a 45 magnum do the same thing, only the word would be MUCH shorter...it would just be \"SHOT\". There. SImples!
Loved looking around your house, with your garden and (RIP) lizzards, and butterflies, and good friends!! Twas calming. I can picture all the flowers!! Smells nice too!
Bruce is awesome, how fun just chill-laxing in the sunshine, supervising his great work?! Acorn missiles, made me LOL. Glad you are having nice weather. We had frost the other night, sheesh. Enjoyed your journal today....enjoy the breakfast burgers! xo
Ruthie loved reading your journal tonight. I can almost smell all your beautiful flowers. Awww red cardinal....it must have been my Dad stopping by to say hello. ( I know I\'m nutty.). Bruce sounds like a good friend & gardner. Does he pull weeds? I\'ll hire him. Hubby hates weeding. Poor lizard/gecko. I know they are harmless but I don\'t like to get in the house. I\'d be up on a chair telling hubby, Get it! Get it! ( I\'d be a nervous basket case.).
Glad the phone bill thingy is over with, I pray. You did good, gf!
Happy Birthday Annie! Same age as Kennedy. Speaking of Kennedy, Daddy & Kennedy have been sick for a week. One get it\'s , then the other. Hope Mommy doesn\'t get sick.
Glad you have some nice moments outside sitting enjoying nature & all her beauty . Sorry about your pains spasms kicking in. Glad you stayed planted until you got the green light to stand up & walk. My day has been so so. Having the stinging throughout my body tonight. Watched a movie from Red Box with Tina Fey in it. Forgot the name already but it was good. I watched while hubby sat next to me snoring away throughout the whole movie. He didn\'t sleep good last night. I just put him to bed at 10:30. I\'m a night owl. I\'m up reading until I\'m good & tired. Don\'t go to bed until 1:00 am. Sleep well tonight my friend. Love you hugs & prayers xo
