Countdown

This is the week my husband asked me to attend a financial meeting with him. It was for couples only, but I was too tired to go, so I didn't. This is the week I purchased Eat this Not That. It was raining and my husband drove me to the book store. This is the week I wrote a story and posted it online. He suggested the title, so it was special to us. This is the week when it starts--the countdown. This is where you remember most of what you did before the passing of your spouse. In the weeks to come, I'll remember what we ate, what we watched on TV, what we said. I'll remember the last time we were together. I'll remember his scent, his eyes, the last time he told me he loved me. And then I'll remember how I watched him go on the greatest adventure of his life--Heaven.

I'll laugh, I'll cry, I'll miss him and ask why I must be on this journey. And finally, I'll accept that it is the way it is...until next year.
