Count my Blessings
While it is hard to be in a long term hospital, I am glad I am in the one that I am. Last summer when it was decided I could not go home they told me I was too sick to be in a nursing home. I am in a long term hospital. It has a rehab floor (one of the best) palliative care floor, geriatric floor, then our floor for respite care and long term care for people who require more care. I guess the difference is how much nursing care you need. Nursing homes have mostly PSW's and a few nurses, here they have mostly nurses with a few PSW's. Quit a few people here are younger. They have recreational therapy mon-fri. We do puzzles, crafts, cards, have coffee, work on pc's. They try to keep us busy.
One other thing that I am grateful for. We live in the same city as the hospital. It is the only one in the province. My Hubby only has a five min drive to get here. I see another MS patient here and he is alone. He comes from a city that is a 4-5 hr drive. So his family does not come in that often. It is hard to be going through what I am but it would be harder if I had to go through this alone. In fact I live so close that once the weather gets warmer I will be able to drive my power chair home and take my dog for walks.
At present I go into bed after supper. There is not much to do at night. Once it is warmer I can drive around the area. There is a coffee shop not far from here that is wheelchair accessible. We are not far from the waterfront, it is very pretty around here. All of the old buildings, in fact part of this hospital is over 100 years old, close to 150 yrs.
I do find I am down in the dumps. It is hard not to be with my Hubby. He has congestive heart failure and the doc's can not help him. He keeps putting fluid on his chest & tummy. He is having a hard time breathing. I want to look after him but when I do go home I only add to his work. He told me he is hanging on so he can help me. He wants to make my life easier. He is older then me but we fit. The nurses keep telling me how good it is to see how much we love each other.
I see my MS doc tomorrow. I am not looking forward to it. But I guess I will know where I stand. What is going to happen & what we can do.

wow these some definite positives, I hope it warms up soon so you can get out and about.
I am glad thing are looking up!
Keep smiling :)
If you can\'t be home all the time, you have a beautiful place to be! The geese here have already headed North so I think Spring will be coming soon and you will be able to get out and explore. Such a pretty time of year. I love the flowering trees like the dogwood and redbud that is actually purple. LOL Seeing things come to life again always renews my hope for a better life.
Bruce is a champ, such a fighter. I\'m so glad you have each other. You speak of how he is hanging on to help you but believe me, you are such an encouragement to him! You keep each other going.
Gentle hugs and joined at the heart, Linda

You do have a lot of blessings to be thankful for. The \"hospital\" sounds really nice for you, and I\'m glad. A friend, NotDeadYet, has to consider going into a home or not, and I recommended that she might want to chat with you to find out some information on your situation and how you made your mind up about when and where to go. I hope you will talk with her. She is really scared at this time and could use a friend.
Bruce and you sound like you were meant for each other.
