Couldn't Stand It........

We just couldn't stand it.  Besides the pain Tim and I feel from losing Amos. ....... oh me ..... watching Lizzie and Allie made it unbearable.

Allie searched every room in the house, over and over.  She'd never done that before, so I know she was looking for Amos.  She found his gravesite and sniffed around and around.

Lizzie saw Amos die.   When we weren't doing something to occupy her, she sat at the corner of the yard, staring down at the place in the road where he died.  I had jury duty yesterday.  When I got home, she was out there, staring at that place, in the driving rain, shivering.

This afternoon, Tim said, "I can't take it.  Let's go look for a puppy."  I said, "Okay."  We found this adorable little 6- week old Lab/pit bull mix at the animal shelter.    He is not an Amos replacement - That is not why we adopted him.  Amos will always have a very large and special place in our hearts - a place unique to Amos.  I do believe the new puppy will help us heal.  Our hearts always have room to grow.  New puppy is already captured Allie's attention.  Lizzie is curious, but Allie is much bigger, so Allie crowds Lizzie out.  When Allie settles down, I think we will have a three-musketeers again ..... Not the same three ..... Never the same three .....

I will post a photo of our new puppy in a few days.  But, before I do that, I want to tell you the story of Amos, our strange yellow dog, in a journal in a day or two.

Of course, the puppy is not a replacement, but it he may ease the grief to some extent. I do hope your other dogs bond with him and learn to love him. It's so sad. I got to thinking of my kitty and what I would do if she passed. It's a terrible thought. Much love.

No, no dog can replace another, just as no human can 'replace' another. But as each dog has their own personality and energy signature, a 'new' dog can help distract from the grief of the missing -- like a new baby reminds us that all life is a circle.

If there was no certainty of loss, could there be love at all? I say yes, but as tender, full and sweet? I think not.

Much love...

Poor Allie! When we got ou puppy after the loss of our older dog, I truly believe it gave my male doxie joy in his life again. He was so sad after his best friend died, and now the two doxies have been together for 8 years - happy with each other and making us happy. I know Lizzie and Allie will have many happy days together.
