Connecting Dots

One of the simpler facts of my life is that normal poultry livestock runs after garden tools like kids run after an ice cream truck. Them garden tools turn up lots of gormet delicasies their talons cannot reach. I wonder if chicken heavan has garden tools they can work while they peck. Just wondering. . . I also wonder if gardeners are allowed to take breaks in chicken heavan. Seems likely I'll never get to know. Another mystery to let be.

That hasnae been true for GS's brood. They barely leave their safe zone under their makeshift tarp roof unless I am sitting in the grass in front of their safe zone. Even then, they are extremely nervous if I move too far from their safe zone. As I have worked the proposed coop site a few inches south overturned hay cart of their safe zone, they have watched me with great interest, skittering out on occassion with what looks like rousing rounds of, "I dare you!" It has been entertaining to watch them flap those wings dramatically during the nervous skitters.

I have been channeling that nervous wait energy into breaking the soil tension layer created by the recent rains over the proposed coop site. GS's fluffy little chicks are pullets now. They went and grew up without him. Their brooding safe zone is getting physically cramped for them and Nature, herself is kicking them out of the nest. They have been making mad, frantic dashes to bigger potential safe zones. No roosting on the bee truck tailpipe, sweeties. No, those tires arenae a safe place to hide. Trust me.

As I channeled my nervous energy into the rhythmic turns of the garden claw I was using to break the soil tension, the feathered invasion startled me. Methinks GS's feather babies have discovered the ice cream truck. They didn't even ask me if the housing upgrade is here yet.

Is it?
