Company

ES and his SO have been here the last two nights. What a relief it is to have company. Methinks the isolation factor up here really is reaching critical. Still holding steady, though. I hope. Prayers in progress. I am expecting the first of the barn remodel bids any time now. Getting work crews up here just might work as isolation breaker enough to serve the immediate needs. Maybe. For sure that part has no itemized line on any work contract I have ever managed.

I still haven't figured out how to word the ad for an assistant, or even what to call said assistant. At the moment, nothing is well enough defined to be able to offer Work Commission clarity or security. Part-time temporary with full-time permanant potentials? I am still hoping to contract the position without the need to work the ad process. Can we do first and define later? Only hoping. . . Letting God lead the dance.

The SO lost her call center job last week. She has been struggling with it since. . . Before I met her 2 years ago? Seems to me she already had tons of call center experience when I met her. Seems. . . I haven't mistaken her career as mine to keep track of. Whatever those details, she is unemployed this week. I find her extremely easy to talk to. She, too, is an emotional orphan and that has provided a strong bonding agent between us. Maybe too much. Enough to make a middle aged bachelor feel cut out of an important relationship? I am pretty convinced that the psychotic break ES suffered last year was triggered by the SO and I making plans for a river survey. I am pretty convinced, but still reminding myself that "momsense" is two humps lumpier than "nonsense." That maternal sense sure puts a wicked wrinkle in a set of field glasses. I am not sure Scientific Detachment works in Mom World. I do believe there is wisdom to be found in the separation of business and family. Objectivity seems to be nearly impossible for me where my off-spring are concerned.

I offered her this obscure position in the current project. Dialog underway. This morning finds me clueless on what to expect. Just as well, I s'pose. Expectations are a pre-meditated resentment in my personal herstory. Just rolling the dice and working with whatever they give me. Prayers in progress.

Whoa... Expectations are premeditated resentments! You write such interesting prose in this journal.

Without plagiarism, there would be no civilization. ~Mark Twain

The best of my prose is "stolen." I stole that one from Alanon meditation readers. I'm pretty sure the anonymous author stole it from somebody else. Feel free to join our thievery ring. Not responsible for copyright disputes.

If I steal from one, it is plagiarism. If I steal from many, it is research. ~Anonymous

Alanon is a worldwide network of many, manys. Maybe I should call it Research instead of thievery?

Update:
The SO is extremely interested in taking the job. We have worked several small projects together with enough efficiency to make me think there is potential to build on. Eldest Son is the biggest question mark. Last year around this time, SO and I were planning a river research expedition. ES slid into a doozey of a psychotic episode resulting in considerable property damage, domestic violence, family trauma and legal action.

Frightening dynamic. . . ES has made considerable progress since then, but the cycles are still in play. Alas, those living cycles cannot be surgically removed and the hyphae run deep.

They are still here this morning. Works in progress. . . Small steps, big faith and lots of prayer.
