Clot?

I'm really worried about something. When I woke up my pajama pants were bunched up around my knee. I have a varicose vein behind my knee and it has been bothering me all day and my knee hurts. I'm worried I could have a clot. This is the same leg I clotted in in the popliteal vein.

You\'re on blood thinners, so it is really, really, really, really, unlikely that you have a clot there. It\'s possible that you just slept weird and the pants were rubbing, pressing, or compressing the area. Plus, varicose veins can be sensitive, so that\'s probably making it worse. And, if you\'re walking oddly or favoring the leg, that\'ll make it feel weird too.

I\'d give it another couple of days to see if it goes away. You\'re already on blood thinners, so it isn\'t like they\'d give you a new treatment or something.

However, if you\'re going to obsess about it for the next 2-3 days, you might as well just go in. I\'ve gotten to the point for myself where I\'d rather just go into the doc and get checked out then worry about it for days. Sometimes it is just easier that way.

I agree with every single thing Toss said. If you think you\'re going to need to see someone, maybe just go see your GP as soon as possible. One positive thing I can say about my original GP is they always saw me the same day I called, so it\'s not like I had to wait around for days worrying, and much less expensive than the ER. It would be good if yours would do the same, and I think many will when you say that you\'ve had a blood clot and you now have symptoms which feel similar to a clot again.

I\'m glad you two responded. I had a mini panic attack at work thinking about this. I do think you\'re right Toss I might have just irritated my varicose veins, there is a fairly large cluster of varicose veins behind my knee. So far I don\'t notice it so much when I\'m walking it\'s more at rest that it bothers me. Like you basically said if it is a clot I don\'t know what that would change since I\'m on blood thinners and I still have the IVC filter in. Maybe change me to a different blood thinner?

That\'s a good point ShilosMommy I could just call up my PCP if it continues to bother me. She is good about getting me in the same day.

How is your leg this morning?

Hi all,

I\'m not noticing any aching behind the knee so far today. Both my knee caps hurt a little but not as bad as yesterday. I think this might be due to me increasing my walking speed and length. I\'ve had sore knees for several years now since gaining weight.

Ok good. I could never wear PJ bottoms to bed for this reason, and that was even before my DVTs. I just always woke up with the bottoms scrunched around my knees and it drove me nuts!

Glad that the behind the knee pain is gone, that\'s a relief.
