Christmas Magic
I won't say things have resolved on the financial front, but a little bit of good fortune has come my way. I went to my family Christmas party last weekend, and my aunt brought me to the dinner table and made a special point that she, her sister, my mom and my grandma had all forfeited buying each other gifts in order to give me $350. It was so sweet. My mom is on disability, and for her to forgo any financial gift to help me out was really a sacrifice for her. My car insurance was about to be cancelled Monday without a payment, so that money was really, really appreciated.
Another thing happened. I got a call that the Sharing Tree had dropped off a gift for me, and as I asked for a gas card and the "limit" is $30, I figured I'd get a $20 gas card like last year. I picked up the gift and it was $100!!! I couldn't believe it! I really, really needed that, too. My car is an utter gas hog.
Finally... I was driving to look for a job, and passed a house that always has a yard chock full of inflatable decorations. It's pretty funny. They had these Christmas trees bundled up with a sign that they were free. I was thrilled. We hadn't picked up a tree yet, and I was worried if I could spare the money as I don't know when/if anymore will be coming in, and trees easily run over $20, often at least $30. I knocked on the door and thanked them for the tree, and he said it was just cut yesterday. It's perfect, really symmetrical and full. It's not an answer to all my problems, but it makes me feel that someone is watching over me this season. I guess the Christmas spirit finds a way.
