change the world.....
sometimes i want to change the world......and then i lie there struggling just to change positions in bed. we all have bad days.....bad times, bad crashes........situations that continue to keep us in a state of flux.
but we keep on trying........thank you for birthday wishes! they were very much appreciated! the birthday dinner party was very nice......LOUD, but still very nice! The restaurant was different than what I thought it would be. The interior of the place is very urban, Korean......industrial.....there are HUGE screens throughout playing Korean Music Videos. Each adult pays $23 per person and then the meal begins. You are allowed to select from a menu of a variety of meats.......they also supply salad, rice, water........in addition to the endless supply of raw meat which each table grills for themselves. It is an all you can eat meal.......and takes a lot of time which is fine and fun for a Party! We sampled a variety of cuts of steak....some I liked very much and some were 'ehhhhh, not my thing! They have a variety of sauces, I liked two of them and by the end settled into the one I liked the most. It was nummy!
The waiter brings you the meat and he pours it all into the hot cooking area in the middle of the table. The meat goes on top of a metal disc......about 14-16" in diameter, just guessing here, but that's pretty close. You're supplied with tongs and heavy duty scissors to work with the meats. Sara & Derian did the honors of cooking all of our meats........I offered to take my turn and then promptly forgot........offered again and forgot again. Sigh........oh well, hopefully I'll get another opportunity to do my share!
Sam said he didn't want to take a turn cooking! He liked them cooking for him.......what a dork! This meal takes a long time to eat......we weren't in any kind of rush at all........Sara & Derian have been there several times but this was a big change for me. It reminded me of places in LA back in my prime! The art was big hunky chunks of carved out rugged raggedy metal.......I don't know if it meant anything, as in symbolized something or if it was just abstract? For all I know it could have been nuttin honey or it could have been messages from various gangs.......I'm just kidding!!!! This place was PACKED! And it's huge! LIke big warehouse store huge...........with lots of rooms for private parties!
At the end each person in the party gets to pick out a mini smoothie.....they have many flavors to choose from. When we went in the restaurant it was warm and when we came out it had turned shivery! They all got smoothies but I was STUFFED and then some! But that didn't stop us from walking over to another cafe cause Sara insisted that I must have a birthday dessert. In the end I picked out a very pretty little round layered dessert......it was some kind of sponge cake interspersed with a dark rich chocolate with hazelnuts throughout........very rich. I had it the next day as a dinner dessert.......it was yummmmmm! myyyyyy!!!!!!
Sara & Derian made me a home made card.......so cute, with stickers and funny sayings......really ADORABLE! Sam's gift is coming in the future, he's going to take me to an event yet to be named.......originally we spoke of going to a lacrosse or an ice hockey game but I don't have enough energy at present to do so much at one time......it's nice to have something to look forward to!
Sara and Derian gave me a big bag with lots of little gifts wrapped up in tissue paper. It was fun! There were two coloring books, more colored pencils/crayons......driftwood and rocks from Revere Beach in Boston........(from their anniversary trip)......there was a bird house made from teal green clay.......Sara told me where she got it from, really pretty pottery place somewhere....sigh, it's very cool! There is a baby blue garden gnome lying down leaning on one elbow.......ridiculously cute! And they got me some really old books from Salem, Massachusetts. Chaucer, Shakespeare.......and others. So many wonderfully thoughtful gifts for this tired old mom. Wow.......
God is healing the relationship is his own Godly way..........this isn't because of the gifts, it's because they are so much the kind of things that I love to enjoy in my little cottage out in the country, things to play with, things for my garden, things to enrich my mind and treasures from their 9th wedding anniversary trip.....makes me a much blessed mommyhead.
I got lost coming home. All I had to do was make three right turns and one left turn to get back on the freeway headed home, but that's not what happened. I ended up lost.......prayed, fought off that skeert feelin'.......and told myself...."you're in Georgia, you're in your own county......you have gas, a cell phone, AAA and GOD above to make it through.........." eventually I saw a road I knew and make my way back......let's just call it the SCENIC ROUTE........but was I ever happy to be back home. The days when I am that kind of tired are not good driving days. I already know this, but I thought if I drive to Sams and he does the bulk of the driving then I can surely manage that final half hour to home. Apparently not........
I spent Sunday night, all of monday and until early evening today recuping. I was glad to have enough energy to do chores and cook food to cover the bases for a bit. I planned to make a meatloaf with ground beef and pork sausage, but I actually thawed ground turkey and ground beef........which threw me a bit. Then I looked up spices that recreate that pork sausage flavor and added them all in save the fennel. I ain't got no any fennel. I pulled it out of the oven, it looks and smells good and that is when I realized I had forgotten to peel potatoes for mashed taters to go with. And I forgot about the baby peas.........
So while the meat loaf rests I have two idaho potatoes boiling. I didn't peel 'em, the skins adds something good right? And I can steam the baby green peas........should be able to eat in a half hour or less. Uh oh......the Maya Angelous special just started at 8 on public television.....I don't want to miss that!
I'm having trouble figuring out how to send hugs now........and a few other things at DS. I'm so confused, and yet cheerful overall......and so thank ful for you and your generous loving spirit!
Night!!!!!

Hello, beautiful! I'm sorry I missed your birthday. Does DS send reminders? Guess not. Well, poopy. Happy belated birthday.
I had to laugh about changing positions in bed. I keep struggling to roll over. It's kind of sad-funny.
I have gotten lost too. It is so frightening. I did what you did. I stop and pray and breathe and remind myself that I am not that far from home.
Love you.
Glad you had a wonderful meal & time with your family on your birthday. I've been to a Japanese Steakhouse but not a Korean Steakhouse. Totally two different ways of preparation as a Japanese one the chef prepares your meal at your table.
Very happy that you got home safely.
The birthday dinner and the gift package from S&D sound wonderful.
Got lost, got gas, got cell phone - bah, no big deal. There have been a couple of times when I could see where I needed to be - literally SEE it, but couldn't figure out how to get from where I was to where I needed to be! Sometimes that's just life.
Wish we didn't live so far apart - I gots fennel. I use it in my lasagna. Got an entire upper kitchen cabinet chocked full of spices and flavorings, plus some. We could could up a storm. ~~~~On bad days, meh, crockpot and bread machine. It's all good.
DS, yeah. Sometimes I wonder if they're tryin' ta git ridda us! I was having real problems reading friends' journals - "No server connection." Then I figured out I could open friends' recent activities and access journal from there! HA! I don't think DS shows my emojis anymore - here's one more shot:
Okay ........ Not only did DS not show my emojis ..... It cut off part of my comment, too! Uhg. Too tired for this. Good night hugs, Sparrow. Fly high tomorrow! Hey, it's only 11:30 pm in MONKY, the western part of it, anyway.
Sounds like a wonderful birthday outing! So glad Sara and Derian took the helm with the cooking - they're old pros having eaten their in the past. Their gift to you sounds perfect - with each thing you described I thought, "Oh, that is something that reminds me so much of Sparrow. Sara really knows her momma." I'm glad God is bringing healing to the relationship. And, thank God you found your way home - you did a good job just by staying calm and realizing it wasn't an emergency situation. When I panic, my useful thinking mode shuts off.
