Bye Bueller
I found my oldest ferret dead today. He was 7 years old, close to the end of the age spectrum for his species. But it didn't make it any easier. He was in his favorite sleeping spot, a crinkle bag like you get for cats, and I couldn't make myself look in it even though I knew. I actually had to get my mum to look into it for me.
She said he had been gone for a little bit, as he was moldy! But I held him two days ago. I have to tell Joey when he gets home. And Bueller was technically my ferret, I had him before we met, but he was Joey's buddy. When he was a little he used to ride around town in Joeys jacket pocket lol. In the winter he would curl up on Joeys lap and sleep, and if we started to get our jackets to go out he would crawl into Joey's inside pocket and look at as like 'what? you think your leaving me behind?' If we had steak or something Joey would save bits of it to give to B.
Plus, he has a cage mate, Bandito. And ferrets are like birds. When their cage mate dies there is a very good chance they will die too. Bandito is a year younger then Bueller was, but he was very attatched. They can die from stress, lonliness, or even starvation because they refuse food when it's offered after a death in the cage. So I'm going to have to watch him like a hawk.
And....my aunt is coming down tomorrow. She may be staying with me. I haven't seen her in 10 years, but she is incredibly anal about how a place looks, and I will be honest...a live ferret doesn't smell like roses, a dead one smells worse. So now I have to air out the whole house and hope that the smell leaves before tomorrow. But it's crazy hot out, so I'm going to only open a couple of windows til tonight when it's a little cooler.
I know he was just a pet. And maybe it's silly to cry over him. But I am anyways. He and Bandito were my kids before I had a kid. I'm gonna miss you buddy.
