Brian Advice

So I realize I’ve been in constant major anxiety freakout mode since summer began. No wonder everything has seemed a little harder, a little bit off, a little worse, and a little more hopeless. I’ve been speaking with someone like me but older by a decade or two, and his advice has helped me. I’ll write it down here so I can refer back to it later.

Change is normal. There’s no such thing as a linear progression. You will go back and forth a lot, regress, change majors or your life goal or whatever, and that’s okay. There’s no pressure in it, or at least not as much as I feel there is. Life is hard but doable. With effort in the right place, some luck, things can work out.

So stop freaking out. Gain some perspective, stop zooming in and see what you’re doing in the big picture, relax with Netflix and some hot cheetos and think. Also money is more important than you think it is, something you don’t realize until you become poor.

Things are okay. More okay than you know. Be the calm in the eye of the storm. Work hard, then sit back and relax. Don’t be pressured to overwork yourself or stay up too late by others, because there will be pressure. Don’t stress. Don’t be that guy who thinks grades are everything.  Don’t study right before tests.

“You have already exceeded all my expectations.”
