boundaries in therapy
does anyone have the experience of becoming very attached to their therapist?
or feel like they've lost a sense of boundary and maybe crossed it yourself with how close
your therapeutic conversations have gotten?
I've been spinning ideas with the Doctor, like I do here,
and I feel as though I may have come across as kind of weird.. but then again maybe with that indulgence she has allowed me to see these kind of dynamics and in that I can now grow...and consider??
I'll take it as the latter. There's always room to grow and so I am.

For me, it was comfort, not attachment. I knew the voice, the routine, the boundaries of conversation. I would guess the thought process is widening as you experience more awareness.
Best wishes.

I've experienced, "Transference" with 100% of the therapists who have actually managed to reach me. With several of them, the transference was severe enough that we decided it would be best for me to change therapists. Gee? ? ? What's wrong with asking a good looking man to bear my children? He had great hips. , ,
Even when it resulted in my needing to change therapists, I'm glad I brought it up in therapy and asked them directly. Those were some extremely therapeutic sessions. I highly recommend you ask her, directly. It's a great therapy topic.
Keep growing, Marky Poo. There is, indeed, always room to grow.
Thanks Arfie
Personally, no, I have not experienced this. But I’m sure its pretty common. I see it on tv shows all the time! If you’re on track to better awareness then it sounds positive. But I think if you are so enmeshed and vested in your communication with a therapist that it feels like you are paying someone to be a friend, then its tricky.
Be honest and bring it up. Sometimes its necessary to shift gears in therapy too, with new doctors. Do you think it would make a difference to speak with a male counselor?
Awareness is good!
Thanks Nikki!
My last therapist I'd had for over 3 years....I've been in some type of therapy now for over 50 years. What I've done and found is to tell them straight up "shoot from the hip" I want honest not dancing around nice nice. For me, the last therapist got to be more of a 'conversation' rather than 'work'. Recently she went on medical leave and I've got a new therapist that has a different perspective and style...more of a push to settle and move forward rather than never ending therapy sessions....specific topics of concern or in my case...lack of supports 'in person' friends, not just on line. Hard for me to do since I like to be at home, and with the world as it is ...ah...live and learn :)
