Bad Times
Thing about being in nursing school is that you don't have to finish for people to think you're the resident expert. Funny thing is I've always enjoyed reading medical literature. I didn't finish nursing school, didn't like it, but I still read books, medical journals and the like. Did so before nursing school too. I just love reading how the body works. So friends and family ask me things all the time. And if it's minor, I'll tell them to see a doctor. And if it's major, I'll tell them to see a doctor, but I also try to hide my expression 'cause sometimes I really know what it could be and it's not good. I had to do that with my husband when he found the tumor on his carotid artery. We weren't married then. Just friends, but the minute he told me about it I insisted that he see a doctor. And when he told me he was going to take his time making an appointment, I told him to make it now and I'll go with you, all the while schooling my face to not show the utter terror I was feeling.
Sometimes knowing helps. I told a man not to pay attention to his doc who told him the pain in his back was nothing. I told him to go to ER right now, don't wait. And he did and 3 hours later they were taking him up for open heart surgery. And so it goes. Now, I'm in another situation with one of my dearest friends. She's suffering with symptoms that I certainly recognize. I'm no doc, so I told her to see a doctor. And she has. She's waiting for the results and I'm scared to death because the symptoms are all pointing to one thing. I talk to her everyday and I'm trying not to let her know what I think. She needs to hear it from her doctor, but she's smart and can clearly see that I'm concerned for her. And I think she knows me well enough to know that I wouldn't tell her if I suspected something really bad.
So, I'm praying....praying to be wrong, because if I'm right only God can put things right.
If you're reading my journal, please pray that my friend is healthy and strong. She is still a young woman with a young child.

My prayers arer well sent for you and your friend....take care
You are doing the right thing with reading all the medical books, learning and dealing with the people in your life even when you suspect things you urge them to see the doctor. You are doing the right thing. I just said a quick prayer for your friend. All the best from Diane B.
I said a prayer too! It\'s always possible to be wrong. I can only imagine how hard it is to have th eknowledge you have and have to refrain from saying anything, but it is the wisest choice to let the doctors handle it and urge people to take care of themselves, very admirable and you are still saving lives....hoping and praying for good news on your friend
I am sending good thoughts your friend\'s way. I truly hope she gets good news. Sometimes having a little knowledge is a burden. As a nurse I still agonize, seven months later, as to whether I missed some symptom or didn\'t react fast enough to make a difference. I replay that last week over and over in my mind trying to figure out where it went wrong.
Your friend is lucky to have such a caring person in her life. Take care...Dawn
Prayers going up and as we know its all in HIS hands. We also know that bad things happen to good people. Its part of life, but, none of us like to have it happen to us or our friends.
Hugs to you. Hang in there my friend.
Joely
keeping both of you in my thoughts and prayers...May God put His healing hand on her and heal what ever it is that is wrong....hugs, Sandi
