Authenticity

Life at the monastery has taught me so much about seeing the passions in myself and others. Managing that conscious perspective also tells me how exhausting it gets for me. (And for all of us.) I'm thinking some authenticity in life is healthy and rejuvenating. I can appreciate that in my friends and the way they deal with things in general. It really is helpful, healthy thing. I go into meal prep now!

something I was thinking about was helping
me take the next steps in taking care of myself.
and so I am buying some medicine and planning
potentially to get a back massage.

I thought about here at the monastery that so very often I do the work
and then want to explode into free time for myself. Like I did last
night. I had a lavish dinner and drinks. Quite frankly in the specter of all
the structure today for Palm Sunday services - I had a moment where
I wanted to drink again like I did last night.
I have been around Catholic priests who were good priests
but then had fixations on wine or cigarettes and even sex
and I get it - the intense structures will inspire some sybaritic freedom seeking.

I also saw a young man and his wife at the Walmart.
They were a beautiful anglo couple. They were both dressed
well in a kind of complementary way to each other - really in such a
composition of 'a nice day out shopping.'

I caught the young man's eye. I thought like me - and like these
priests - when faced with extreme structures, you need
to break loose and get freaky as well. in some way
to balance and be healthy - perhaps with some authenticity.

Sometimes structures fit - sometimes they don't - maybe all have to be managed. :-)

Also it occurred to me during service that I get turned around so much mentally, that when I come to do the services, it’s like it’s all brand new to me, even though it’s the same series of prayers. I’m grateful for that routine. Stress during the day really turns me around and so it has me rely on that structure as
I can successfully do it. I can do it good enough.
