At Geo's Dad's house
Today at Geo's dad's house went well. Normally I have some sort of issue that makes me want to leave early, but today I managed to stay okay. My back and neck are hurting, but I have a heating pad to help it. It's one of those ones that go around your neck. Anyway, today at Geo's dad's was fun. His baby sister (2.5 years old) was saying happy father's day to her dad and brother. Geo's stepmother was saying she would have a heart attack if Jonathan, Geo's 10 year old brother, was a father. It was just so cute watching her run around and learn. She would pick up a yellow toy car and say “Yellow car” then pick up a blue Batman motorcycle and say “Blue motorcycle” over and over. She was just playing with all her toys. We watched this movie, The Veteran, on Netflix and I liked it. It didn't have the ending I thought it would. It's a English film, so their ways are different than Americans sometimes. I brought my laptop with me in case it was a movie I didn't want to see or Jonathan was playing video games, but I didn't need it. They gave us the truck to get home and go grocery shopping. The truck was broken, but Geo's dad fixed it.
At the grocery store I got the things I need to make for our anniversary dinner. I got some steaks, mashed potatoes and zucchini. I don't know how long zucchini lasts (it's 9 days till our anniversary) or if I can freeze it. I guess that's something I can look up on Google when I'm done with this. I can't believe it's been 7 years. It feels like we just stated dating, and at the same time that we've been together forever. We've lived in this apartment for 3 years now, which is crazy to me. I used to move around a lot as a kid, especially having divorced parents with split custody. I like it here, so we are going to stay here next year too. The pools being closed all the time is annoying, but it's just a little thing.
I'm worried about my stepdad, Richard. I have tried calling him all day, and he hasn't responded. I know he got online because he's still signed onto gmail, but he is inactive. I just sent him a message and I hope he replies so I can tell him Happy Father's day. I told him last night just in case I didn't get to speak to him today, but I still want to tell him today. He knows I think of him like a second dad, but I'm so attached to my real dad that I can't call him dad too. My real dad died when I was 13, and I idolize him. For Father's Day I put a picture of him on my night table so I can see it all the time. I know my dad had his problems, but he tried his best to be a good dad.
One of my favorite memories of my dad is when we used to go to museums and national parks on Saturdays. This was when my mom had custody of us and we used to spend the weekends with my dad. He would go out of his way to make sure that we had a good time, and learned something as well. I remember a picture we had once of my brother, sister and I standing in little dents of a cave in Vasquez Rocks. I don't know what happened to that picture, but I would love to have it. We would always go driving into the desert to go look at rocks and stuff. When it was a rainy Saturday, we would go to the local museums and look at all the cool stuff there. My dad wanted to make sure that we got a good education. I know he's proud of me for getting my diploma. I know that's what he would have wanted me to do.
Mood today was good... I didn't get depressed over my dad like I normally do on Father's Day. I've finally able to let him rest. My therapist was wonderful in helping me get over the depression and just feeling sad instead of depression. It's normal to feel sad, but it's not normal to be depressed over it, especially not 16 years later. I just have my dad's picture next to his ashes on my bedside. I think having tangible things of his helps. Getting all those pictures of my dad from my Nana was wonderful. I was staring at this one picture earlier of him and my cousin Barry. My dad has the biggest smile on his face and it just makes me happy seeing him happy. I know he didn't have a lot of good moments, so to see him like that was wonderful. I just wish he was holding one of his kids, but we were all older by then. I do have a picture of me and I think my dad as Santa, but I look horrified lol. I do have some good pictures of us, but that one of him and Barry is just so genuine. It really brings out the happiness in his face.
