ashes

Today I finally moved Leslie's ashes into the urn I bought. I found the urn on ETSY--handmade with a copper raku glaze. The colors are beautiful. The copper, blues, purples, reds. One of a kind, just like Leslie.

I removed the bag of ashes from the temporary container and sat for about half an hour just looking at the ashes through the bag. About 15 years ago Les was in a car accident--her left forearm was shattered and she had a number of plates, pins and screws in that arm. Were they cremated with her? I'm not sure I want to know. Maybe one day I'll find out.

I finally moved them into the urn. Spread some parchment paper on the table -- a little did spill and I poured that in from the paper when I was done. I had bought 2 pendants made to hold a tiny amount of ash. I filled those as well.

Afterwards I added the ashes of 2 of Leslie's beloved cats--Bonanza and Duchess. She had the ashes on a shelf with pics of the cats in her apt. I made sure I took them. Some people would disapprove of this, but I know that Leslie would totally be onboard. She can snuggle with her kitties again--she would love that.

The urn is on a shelf over my desk, in the "dining room" (which I use as an office). It's visible from most of the living room and the kitchen. Below the shelf I have a collage frame of pics of Leslie.  I have a small framed photo of Leslie with Sawyer (the dog) next to the urn. This is the pic she chose for her obituary. I'll add more things as time goes on.

I love you Leslie . Always and forever, I am your mama.

I'm sure this was a very emotional task for you my friend. The urn sounds beautiful, and I'm sure Leslie loves that you included ashes of her sweet fur babies. I think that's very special and very appropriate. But the truth is, it really doesn't matter what I or anyone thinks, agree or disagree, this is YOUR child and YOUR choice and that's all that matters. You did what was in your heart to do and that makes it 100% right!

Tight heart hugs,

It feels as if you did what was right for you and that is all that matters. The urn sounds just right for your Leslie and I know that this was very important for you so I'm glad you were able to accomplish the task. Not an easy one and not one that a parent should ever have to be doing, deepest of sighs.

Are you feeling as if you are settling into your new digs? Is it becoming a bit more familiar as I understand it takes time.

Loving and gentle care your way, Leslie's forever mama from Douglas and me.

Hello Sue, the urn you chose for your daughter sounds beautiful and how lovely that she and her beloved cats are together.

I wish none of us ever had to do these things...picking urns etc. Only us moms know how difficult all of this is. But we continue to nurture our children as we thoughtfully make these sad decisions.

The shelf and the pictures surrounding Leslie sounds beautiful.

Gentle hugs, Linda ♡
