Arguments

So many times I've read about people in our group arguing about this or that.  Althought I've never been a part of it, I've spent a lifetime arguing with my father.  Then I read a book that changed my life.  It's by Joyce Meyers and it's about strife and how to get it out of our lives.  It's a religious book, written with many bible quotes.  I'd say there's nothing I shouldn't have figured out on my own, but I didn't.
There was one profound point she made:  Jesus never defended himself.
So what should we do?  The answer, let God defend us.
I started doing that immediately with my father.  Before, we argued daily, especially over the last 6 months.  Each time I felt in the right and so did he.  We said hurtful things, even words we didn't mean.  In the end, anger clouded our thoughts and deeds.  We were like wild animals, instincts guiding us.  Then I found this book and changed.  And the next time my father started an argument, I did not take the bait.  Instead, I let God defend me.  I threw aside my own pride to do this.  The next day, my father said I was right.  He'd taken the time to think about it overnight and came to this conclusion.
This has been repeated several times.  Sometimes it's me who discovers he was right and I was wrong.
The book is called Conflict Free Living.  I'm still reading it on my Kindle.  If only I had found this book years ago.

I\'ve read some of her books, and like them. It is very hard for us as individuals NOT to defend ourselves!! I\'ve not read this particular book of Joyce\'s, but it sounds good. Thanks for the info. Hugs, Joely

I saw her once a few years ago. she is a very good speaker and gives some very good advise. So often when we get angry it really is because our pride is hurt. I found this interesting little sermon. I think it speaks a lot on what is happening. http://churchoftherock.ca/blog/?p=318

I have watched her often on TV. She is a good speaker and I like her down to earth attitude on religion and life.

Where did you purchase the book? It is something that I would love to read.
I would like to live conflic free that is for sure. I love books that quote the bible as long as they are accurate. So you said it is called \"Conflict Free Living\" by Joyce Meyers. Can I buy it in Chapters or have to go to a religious book store? I am glad it helped in dealing with the conflict with your father. I am not good at handling conflicct at all. I appreciate your information from Diane B.
