Anybody Can Find You
Time was a person had to hire a private detective to find you, and criminals had to try and follow you home. Not anymore. I typed my name into the google search engine and my address and age popped up. Before I bought the home nothing appeared. So buying a home leaves you open to all sorts of people knowing where you live. It's just horrible that this information is out there for anyone to see. And there's nothing you can do to have it taken off the internet. There's tons of websites from people who've tried and failed.
So, guess I can save that dollar I've been giving the phone company to not list my info.

Last May I Lowe\'s forced me to give them my social security card to reissue a check where they forgot to put my last name on the first check and they took the card into the back office to fax and now I find I have been a victim of ID theft with fraudulent charges put on my Home Depot card which I had to have them investigate as the receipt was signed by someone other than myself who used my SSN to do this. Now I had to contact credit reporting agencies; file a police report as well as notify the DOJ and banks. It is INSANE that Lowe\'s forced me to do this to have access to my money they overcharged me for. I now have a nightmare on top of coping with disability after the death of my husband.
It is all so crazy -- and you are right, once the damage is done - there is noway to \'undo\' it and we are left with the fall-out. The \'bad-guys\' are having the best of it at our expense. Just sickening!!!

Its a pretty scary time we are living in the information age. You can find information on anyone or anything just go on a search engine. Its scary. No wonder there is so much identity theft these days. You never heard about it in the sixties. It shows how old and wise we are now.
Yes - we are all vulnerable. Because I had to file probate, it was published in the paper (by law) including my address! Just love that so many can see exactly where I live and that I am a recent widow (not)! :(
Truly frightening, I try not to think about it, and I stay off many of the sites that would give any more information than is already out there!
