any ideas would be appreciated

I am going out of town in early March.

The thing is, I have my cat here and I need somehow

to have him looked after while I am gone.

The rescue owner from whom I got him can board him.

The trouble is that Blue is SOOOO dependent on me - I am the only

one he gets close to and also he is SOOO dependent on our routine

and schedule. Literally we do the same things at the same times

every day - and when I vary from it - he gets meowy upset.

I just fear that bringing him to be boarded and leaving him for around 10 days to 2 weeks

will traumatize him. I don't know if I have any other option.

It just is a really hard issue to decide upon. I love this little guy a lot.

I don't want to hurt him. Should I think about it as 'he'll get over it?'

I've thought about having a cat sitter come to my place once a day

to feed and clean up after him (so that he won't have to leave his home.)

If I do that, then he will be very much alone for all that time - and that can

be kind of a torture for him too.

Big hug sweetie.... He should be fine.....It may take him a day or two to settle in but then he'll be okay..... He'll be treated well and you'll be back in a short while

I've done animal sitting for friends and the first day or so they're a tad skittish and then they're fine and soooooo excited when mom or dad gets home!!.... xo

You don’t think he’ll be traumatized and feel betrayed?

I used to have a few friends who would come and stay in my apartment and live here with Bella….they aren’t available now so H drops by to feed her, clean litter and play but she is solo a lot and she gets over it.

I haven’t been gone for more than a week but if I did I would consider taking her somewhere. I mean the only other thing to do is take him with you hehe. And I saw many folks travel with cats when I worked in the airport!

When we moved we boarded our 2 cats at the vets office. They had never been away from home before. I was a little anxious about it and called the first day to make sure they were okay. When they got home, to the new house, they were fine. I think Blue will be just fine. He should be around people rather than stay home all the time by himself.

Ah. I have boarded animals and I have had sitters come to the home.

It really depends. I think you're doing the right thing by writing it out, and considering the options of both ways.

I've had 7 cats in my life time .... what I've learned is they are happiest in their home.
I've never boarded a cat cause what I've seen is they are in a cage.
You might want to ask the person you got Blue from 'where they are put and how often they are pet, fed etc'.

You could also look into below if you can only have someone come in every couple of days...talk to your vet and I'm sure the vet will tell you Blue will be Just Fine :)
Cost will be a factor as well...could your parents come by a couple of times during the week.
If you are in an apartment building, do you have someone you would trust to come in and take care of Blue?

If you can find someone to come feed/clean liter box, then Blue will be fine on his own.
You could leave on some classical music, and maybe scatter some toys around that you play with.
He'll be just fine Mark, he will probably sleep most of the time.

I feel the same way about Chachi....when I was in hospital for 11 days 2 years ago, totally out of it with temp of 103 with tick bite and no kidney function, she went Without Food For Three Days...no one knew I was in hospital....the contact person I had Didn't Contact John, he wasn't living with me at the time...I just cried, but she survived and is ok.

Yes, I get that Blue Is On His Schedule With You...Chachi is The Same, she Screams At Me usually about 15 minutes before feeding time, goes to the door to go out on the porch...two liter boxes, she Uses Both, one for 'one', the other for the 'other'! I've got two, kitchen and porch.

I think she has Part Dog in her cause She Scratches On The Door To Come back into the house from porch...too cold now to keep the door open!!

So Happy For You that you've got something to look forward to doing!!! """"Living Your Life"""" :) Woot!!!!
