Another year older...

So I had my 69th birthday party (or as I called it, a wake)  last evening.  Joe did the cooking and we did the eating.  We had a great time - laughing and eating, and yes, the wine was plentiful!
My dear friend Barbara from Ontario was here and we invited our good friends and neighbours over.
Joe did the cooking.  I stayed out of his way and really didn't know what we were having until it was served.  He likes doing tapas meals - a little bit of a lot of thing and likes to try different recipes so every company meal is different.  He had 6 or 7 different dishes.  He also likes to freak a couple of neighbours out with 'different' foods.  Last night it was smoked duck breast, carpaccio, and tarts with peas, serrano ham and quail eggs.  Everything was wonderful and Wayne, who was very hesitant, had extra helpings of some things.
Adriana, my next door neighbour (literally - we are in a condo) baked 2 angel food cakes, a white one for me and a chocolate one with chocolate cookie crumbs and gummy worms.  Joe will be 70 on the 24th - older than dirt!  Adriana is a baker extraordinaire.  We are not really in to baking and sweets so it is great that she likes doing desserts.
All in all, we had a great time, at least I did!  I am now 69 - or as I tell my friends - beginning my 70th year.
Lisa:  You were here I am sure - I just wish you could have been here to give me a real birthday hug and give me a hard time about being old!  I miss you always and love you forever,  Mummy

Sounds like it was a great party! A little bit of a lot of different dishes sounds so wonderful....I\'ll trade Joe for John any time! My 66th Birthday was on the 4th of this month. Jim and Jess remembered and surprised me with flowers.. I decided I wanted to go out for dinner and John decided he would rather stay home and watch TV then go out to eat so I went by myself....Happy Birthday to Me! OK enough of a pity party...I have my big girl pants on now....and I\'m really not jealous...well not too much anyway. So glad you had a great Birthday Marlene, you really are one special lady.

Big Hugs,
Terry

My previous husband was 28 years older than me... He had a very good sense of humor and I still think of many of the things he said and smile... so anyway... he worked as a corrections officer at the jail till he was 67... sometimes the younger officers were quite ugly... they would tell him things like... you old fart why don\'t you quit and let a young man have this job... you\'re too old... yadda yadda yadda.... Woody would catch them talking about him being too old sometimes when they thought he wasn\'t listening... He would chime in you guys are so right... I hate old people... don\'t you old people.... stuff like that.... but the one that cracks me up is so one day he said, \"when I was a kid I thought like 50 was old old old... but for awhile now I\'ve been telling people... like when I was 56, 57 or so.... I\'d say my gosh I\'m a young man still... I\'m not even 60.... then I reached 60... and for the next few years I told people I\'m still quite young... I\'m in my early 60s... and I\'m as strong as an ox... then of course in my upper 60s... well I\'m not even 70 yet... just barely in my 70\'s....\" Woody was so funny when he\'d be telling this... so that\'s my gift to you Marlene... my goodness woman you\'re not even in your 70\'s yet... LOL
