Another hot fall day

Hi everyone,  It's a beautiful fall day in NC. The sun has been shinning now for the past week and it has been so hot.  I know I whinned last winter about it being so long but this has been one hot summer!  I am ready for some cooler weather and pulling out my sweaters and such.
I hope this finds you all  having a good day.  I know I count my blessings that Steve is doing well and while he is off the Sutent for a break we have been having some fun.
Our car club had an old fashioned cookout on Saturday night.  We drove up this old dirt path (no show cars) to a cabin that sat on the hill where you could see the mountains in the distance.  It was a fairly new cabin with dirt floors with saw dust on it, but it had electricity and we had a fridge.  The couple giving the party had rented a port-a john.  (Meriel that is a portable toilet) but it was clean and had lights inside  and a station to wash you hands.  They sure have improved those things!!
Back to my story:  Our host and his wife had been cooking pork shoulders and chicken breast halves since morning.  Did I say that this guy really knows how to cook this stuff. He has a huge cooker that will hold a huge amount of food. The guest brought the desserts and potato salad. They provide barbecue slaw, by the way our slaw is red in the south.  hehe  A little later we roasted marshmellows over a huge campfire.  And we make smores!
After that wonderful meal we played the corn hole game?  Ever heard of that? Meriel they are little square bags filled with corn and you attempt to throw them in the round holes in a board that is made just for this game.  If you folks think I am crazy just look in up on AOL, some people call it corn toss. At any rate my Steve is very good at this game and was the winner of the night.  LOL  It is kinda like pitching horse shoes but with corn filled bags.  He had a really good time and  with the exception of some bad nausea at meal time he did fine.  I cherish these time with Steve.  I try not to let myself think about the what ifs.  Will all of these folks still be my friends without Steve?  I have a friend who was dropped by their circle of friends when her husband died!  If my friends do that to me then they were not my friends anyway!!
Today Steve is having a "shut down day".  Staying in his PJ's and just messing around.  I try to have one of those once in a while.  A day with no make up and just piddle around the house.  Do any of you do the same?  I know all of you girls who still work don't get to do that but that is one advantage of getting older!!
Well I am rambling,  I pray for all of you and I pray that each one of you will have a day of peace without pain and worry.
My love,  Wanda

Hi Sugah!
I totally agree about the weather. It\'s probably hotter down here in SC. Ugh! I, too, am so ready for cool temps.
Thanks for writing about the party. Bet it was lots of fun! I\'ve never heard of or played the corn hole game either. I\'m with you on that, Meriel!
I have a dear friend here that lost her husband to RCC six years ago. We\'ve all continued to include her in all our gatherings and activities. She has no interest in men, but seems to enjoy being with all of her friends. Hope they\'ll accept me the same way, when that time comes. Like you said...if not, they were never friends!
Take care, Wanda.

Dear Wanda, I never heard of the corn toss game either. Thank you for sharing this wonderful good time with us. I enjoy hearing these stories. Please try not to thing about the \"what ifs\"....I know how that can ruin a precious moment....There is a reason why your Steve is doing so well...he gives hope for so many... I will pray that he stays strong for a very long time to come... Love, Linda

Wanda, sounds like a really fun time! I\'ve never heard it called the corn toss game, but I\'ve seen a lot of people playing the game at the campgrounds. Glad to hear Steve is doing well. Don\'t let the what ifs invade too often, enjoy the good times and take each day as it comes. And I love the pajama days too! :) Karen

Thank you to all of you. I know that I will remain your friend and I pray that one day we might meet at a gathering of sorts. I find comfort in this group of friends. Love you all!!

It sounds like a great party. Thank you, dear Wanda, for those explanations for Meriel. Amazing that we all speak English but have different names for various things. It\'s also the first time I\'ve ever heard of the Corn Toss game. It must be a lot of fun. But we do have PJ days here, too. I love my lazing around days.
Love and hugs Angel
