Another Glorious Day

Praise God!  Saw life in Bob yesterday I haven't seen in a long time.  It was his last day of radiation, don't know if the joy I saw in him was the fact that it was over or what, but I'm so thankful that I saw it!  He wanted me to come to some rummage sales with him, was conversational, and interactive.  It was like I had him back for the day.  He said he had so much fun, just wandering around, looking at things, talking to people.  We looked at vacuum cleaners any time we saw them, he found some china he liked and started looking at collector glass again.  Lots of glass at one rummage sale, and he made the comment that it was a good thing he was dying or he'd end up buying a lot of the glass.  All said with a sense of humor that's been hidden for quite a long time.
He came home with a pair of wooden crutches, as one of our jokes, since he started using a crutch in June, was that he'd never be able to sneak up on someone with his noisy aluminum crutches.  Now he has a wooden pair that he calls his "stealth crutches".  They are actually much quieter, I don't wake up in the middle of the night when he gets up.
The whole course of radiation this time was extremely rough on him.  So much pain and difficulty swallowing.  He would even admit that this last week was rough on him.  Looking forward to a week or so from now when all the side effects have passed.
I praise God for the day yesterday, for the smiles and the laughter and the conversation.  What a gift.  I had been feeling so lonely around the house with Bob here, but not feeling well enough to interact at all.  During that time, God sustained me with his word, taught me to rely on Him, to go to Him for companionship.  I know it's a lesson I will have to rely on again in the near future.  Thank God for his faithfulness in teaching me that lesson, and for the joy in Bob yesterday.
What a journey.
