another day to be thankful
Hi Everyone, Well it another great "day in the neighborhood" meaning that all is ok. Steve is doing good with this cycle of Sutent. He goes to the doctor tomorrow for bloodwork. He has been having some minor pain around I guess where your gall bladder is located. Just stinging is the way he describes it. I know from scans that he has some gallstones so I pray that is not acting up. I would not want them to take it out because of the cancer. I have always heard that invading the body can cause the cancer to spread. We will take the wait and see approach. He has forbid me from telling the doctor but we shall see about that. He gives me the "look that can kill" we I say something! hehe
Our children are on a plane at this moment going to Florida for a week. Both daughters with spouces and with Mally.
I am so grateful that they want to spend time gogether.
Please say a prayer for traveling mercies.

I have always heard that same thing about surgery and cancer but I never really asked a doctor about it. Glad all else is going well. Florida sounds wonderful now......it is freezing cold here and doesn\'t look as if it will let up anytime soon.

Yep! I\'d love to be in Florida now too. I have a friend that lives there and it\'s 78 degrees there.

Hi Wanda, Just to let you know, M\'s Oncologist did say that there is some limited researh that does suggest a link to the spread of cancer after surgery. (M had 5 surgeries over the years.) However, all of M\'s were critical to him having a better chance at living...it was one of those decisions that has risk on both sides of the coin. I hope Steve won\'t have to make any decision like that...surgery has risks even when there isn\'t cancer involvement. If it is gall stones, I hope they can blast them with a lazer beam or something. Wanda, I remember when we would go to the doctor..Buddy...would give me the eye if he thought I was going to reveal something he didn\'t want me to...and then he would say is there anything we wanted to ask the doctor...Hope all is well and good results with the blood work...hugs Ellen

all tho it isn\'t at all a funny situation at all, i did get a laugh at the way you explained the \"the look to kill\" you only know this because Tim is the same way as your dear Steve.. Wanda i hope you understand that letting you know the bit of humor i had was only that i can relate to this so well..
I have read that open surgery was just a myth, that cancer can cause spreading, i know that it is a fact as any open surgery and air can cause cancer to spread much more rapidly, but they usually do it laparoscopic for gallbladders today which requires no risk to a patient something to consider.. At least it basically a far better way for Steve to have his gall bladder out if it came right down to that, i myself had mine out that wat about 15 yrs ago, recoup time is fast and much less painful.. Tim, also had his kidney removed this way too

Like Becca, I had a smile when I read about Steve\'s \"look to kill\". That is exactly what I do to my husband, too. I might add, he also does the same thing if I go to his specialists with him.
I do hope Steve will or will \"allow\" lol you to mention the stinging pain. I know gall bladder stones can cause excruciating pain. I know most gall bladder surgery is done here by \"keyhole\" (lapaparoscopic) surgery. Ditto to what Becca has said re that aspect.

Will be thinking of you and praying Steve\'s results are A-OK. Gall bladder issues can be resolved with meds sometimes. I, too, have heard and read that the \'surgery spread\' old wives tale does actually have some merit. But as Linda mentioned, there are instances where there is really no choice but to do surgery. Not doing it presents dire consequences and so we must opt for it and take our chances. Again, hope you get the same news as Ray!
