Another Day at Home... Novation
So, I am working from home just like last week. Had a trip out to another state last week. I was in a lonely hotel room thinking about where I could with the towels that I ripped up... But now it is Monday and the sun is shining. Usually, I go into work (secure location), but the contract that I am working for didn't keep up its security clearance because it is going to morph and join with this other company. So until the name change is approved by the government, I am out. No building access and my commute shrink to 30 sec from 45 minutes. I can do everything from my house, but they want the face of the contract to the government. I can do that easy as I have worked with these type of people before, and understand their language and thinking. Because I had deployed twice with these people is what got me the job. The job is all admin stuff, so it is not hard. They are paying me stupid amounts of money. I guess that is good but what I long for is a job that challenges me. For this job, all the problems are figured out, and I am just the grammar nazi. I would kill to be back out in the field. But that has passed me on, and now I am doomed to sit in this chair.
A good quote from Lord of the Rings:
Aragorn: What do you fear, my lady?
Eowyn: A cage. To stay behind bars until use and old age accept them, and all chance of valor has gone beyond recall or desire.

Government work, you must be pretty smart.
Big hug for you Thor..... Work takes up a lot of time so it sux when you don't like what you do
Would you want to take a course or two when you're feeling well enough to get you into something else?.....xo
Hopefully the merge gets settled and you get your clearance back. Have you looked at other positions at this company that might be more fulfilling? Or considered a change of companies? If you are willing to take a pay cut, give thought to a different career. In my opinion, a rewarding job trumps a bigger paycheck. How are you doing with being home alone so much? Hugs.
SunCloud - I would love to take some courses, but I am working and don't have the time or energy. I would love to become a therapist, but I think it is too late for me now. But, I think that I would bring a different perspective, given my experiences. Will need to ask the TDoc.
Simpsons - it is a little weird, but I didn't lose my clearance, the company did. So even though I have a TS, I can't work at a low-level secret room because of my company. And this is really where my expertise lies - special logistics. I support teams often in their "native environment" I'd rather be out in the bush than sitting in a desk. It also leads to an odd life. One of the places that I worked at was right next to the sniper range (here in the US). So you are in your office, and you hear gunfire pretty much all day long. It was also odd that I would drive my car through this range while they were shooting. The idea was that these guys don't miss, so it is safe. Maybe all this warped reality that I have been living in for years is finally showing up.
Never too late to change careers. Many have become therapists by doing the classes in their 50's. Many schools now offer online courses with a mentor/instructor as back up. No retirement age for therapists. Master level is sufficient; less for coaches.
