Another Bummer of a Day

We take Bueller to the vet today to see if he has adrenal disease.  The chances are very very good that he does.  He exhibits all the signs and he's the right age.

The vet asked me if I wanted to bring him in yesterday, but I couldn't handle two deaths on my hands that day.

That's how this is going to end.  In death.  Maybe not today, but soon.  Surgery is an option, but he's 6 years old.  The average life span is 6-8 years, closer to 6.  I don't want to put him through that, then all the recovery time, just to find out that either A:the cancer couldn't be removed or B:he's just going to go in a year anyways.

And then, if we do end up euthanizing him, ferrets are like birds.  They are cage mates, and they mourn the loss of a mate.  Bandito will be left all alone.  He's only 5, but without Bueller he could go into a severe depression and starve himself to death.  Or die of a broken heart.  Sounds silly, but Bandito almost died when our jill died.  She was 8 and very old and brittle.

I don't want to go to the vet.  But if it is andrenal it will eventually become very painful for him.  He won't be able to urinate, and his bowels will get blocked up.  Then his appetite will go away, and he will start looking thin and sickly.  He's almost 100% bald now.  It was everywhere but his tail....so we weren't too concerned.  He might of been going bald like old men do!  But the other week I noticed it on his tail....and I almost cried.

He's like my baby.  All my pets are like my kids!  But Bueller holds a special place in my heart.  He is the perfect ferret, and he has been such a good little man.

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother with animals when it's garunteed they are going to die before me.
