Alms to Grady

I found out Tuesday that my best friend and cat of 18 years had Liver cancer. To quote the doctor," there are no normal cells in his liver". I guess his disease came on so slowly that I never noticed. I just knew that he was looking older and tired. Normal for a cat his age I told myself.
The diagnosis of cancer hit me like a ton of bricks. I knew he was in pain, I knew his life had probably become something he was ready to be over. He was holding on to me just as I was holding on to him out of shear and total love.
Wednesday the tests came back, he looked so sad and so very tired. I knew the time had come to do something for him that he couldn't do for himself and take care of him instead of taking care of myself. He mattered more than I did and he wasn't going to suffer.
Wednesday afternoon was the time my best friend, who was with me through thick and thin, up and down. Who went from ferrel to sleeping in my arms all night went to the other side of the rainbow bridge.
Good bye Grady, I love you so.
