A View From the Porch
Last night I looked out our patio door and spotted the empty lawn chairs placed side by side on the back porch. They wait in vain for the couple who took such pleasure in sitting comfortably in the presence of one another sipping iced tea. Do you remember how much we enjoyed those late evenings on the porch? We chatted about this and that or just held hands in comfortable stillness as we enjoyed the rewards of nearly a half century of loving one another.
That dreaded time of year has once again rolled around—the anniversary of the beginning of my personal hell on earth, my life without you. At times, I wonder how I survived those hideous first months that brought me to the inevitable conclusion: I was unmistakably alone. But then I remember God's grace as He gently guided me through the landmines of loss. My dear husband, there is not enough room on this page to describe how I've been tenderly cared for during your absence. I was lovingly carried on His shoulders when I was unable to walk the path of loss unaided. Then the time arrived when it was safe to place me on the passageway of my new future.
My days are quite different now. I no longer sit on the back porch, my love. Sitting there without you is just plain boring. The magic is gone. The 6th year of my journey is about to begin. I continue to embrace life being confident that God does not make mistakes; your sudden death did not surprise Him. I look to my future with hope and have confidence in my Guide. I'm doing well and my life has reclaimed meaning. I have learned to seize the moment; however, I miss the best part of my life—YOU!!!!
Love to you, my friend and husband. I'll be looking for you at the gate.

Oh TJ what a beautiful succinct way of expressing you love for your dearest Curt and the care the Lord and given you and the direction He alone gives in your loss. John
TJ. This was a very moving post. I too, never sit on our screened porch anymore, never. How I remember sitting with her every night. Now it\'s just no fun. Glad your moving on and happy holiday to you. Hugs, Kip.
TJ - Such a beautiful post and I thank you for expressing your feelings so perfectly. Our spot was our cozy front porch - Mark had his chair in the corner with his table and all of his \"stuff\", glasses, magazines, a book or two and I sat in the rocking chair next to him. The porch seems so empty without him there. The 2 month anniversary of the beginning of my hell is tomorrow - July 4th and somedays I too am wondering how I am making through each day. I know that God has his hand in guiding me - and carrying me when need be. I also believe that He doesn\'t make mistakes - and I\'m taking my baby steps to have meaning to my life again. I know it won\'t be easy - and it won\'t happen overnight, but I\'m hopeful. I look forward to spending eternity with my wonderful Mark..........as I love him with all my heart.
Thank you again and wishes for a happy holiday. Christine

Goodmorning TJ
What a beautiful post I\'am glad to see as these mile stone days approch with time, hard work and abiding faith you are able to look back with fondness and live in the present with such grace. I\'am glad you have found meaning for your life and it will be hard but keep holding on to His hand till you and mark are together again. God Bless Dave
Our spot was the back porch, overlooking a lake. I will be out there today with family and friends, but I rarely sit there and just absorb the beauty as we used to do. I am so thankful for the faith expressed by those who have commented. I know that God has sustained me every day through Frank\'s 2 yr. illness and now nearly 2 yrs. of loss. Scripture says He will never leave us or forsake us - and I know this is true. Blessings to you TJ - and to everyone else also.
Ours too was the back porch, looking out over the cove leading to the lake. You have such a beatiful way with words. It began just the same as your story. Wonderful, loving, kind, special husband, holding hands, constantly saying \"I love you\". Everything is so different now and I\'m not moving forward very well. Sad, sad walk into this new normal. I hate it. I will try, with God\'s help, to pick myself up. For that is the only way I can begin again. Guess this is a low time for me. Sorry, but I know you all can relate. Hugs and prayers, Darlene
A touching posting.

Such bittersweet memories. The strength and comforting encouragement you share about where your help has come from in your journey is wonderful and I know He has been my source as well. Many, many blessings to you, Janet.
A beautiful posting. There are empty lonely chairs on my patio also.
A very moving journal that sums up well the mixed emotions and the hole in our lives that is always there no matter how well we come to terms with our new lives. My thoughts are with you. Patrick
For us it was the back patio by the pool. We used to sit there in the morning drinking our coffee together listening to the birds singing. It took months before I could even walk out there. I understand... Love and Hugs, Martha
Your entry has brought tears to my eyes! I really miss our early saturday morning conversations sitting atthe kitchen table or in our room. those were our spots.
I hope I can soon reclaim the meaning of life, but I suppose I still have a long path ahead of me before I get there. thank you for sharing this moving and inspiring entry. Hugs from Sil
Simply beautiful....Hugs Nancy
I think there are things that will never be the same for us as we continue our lives without our spouses...with me I just can\'t sit at our dining room table..that is where we would sit and talk and talk ..especially when the family was over. He would love to just sit there after dinner and go through one subject after another .....it always made him so happy to have the family around with good conversation and good food...now when I do have the family we do sit in there but I sit in his chair and try to continue the things he loved..but when I am alone I don\'t eat in there...hugs Ellen
