A True Blessing

I have a friend who is angry and bitter about her divorce.  I have relatives who never found the right guy.  I have friends and family who found the wrong guy and lived in misery.  Then there's me, a happily married woman.
A few months ago I wrote a journal about how I thought I might have been happier had I never met my husband.  Now, I see my error.  Yes, I would be spared this pain, but I also would have lost out on the joy of knowing him.  I knew him a sum total of 18 years.  We were best friends who divorced each other but the friendship never ended.
Our wedding vows said in sickness or in health.  But my husband and I weathered the sickness and health as friends.  We'd divorced.  I'd moved on.  And then he called me about the golf sized tumor on his carotid artery.  It was me who told him to see a doctor.  It was me who sat by his side during the surgery and recovery.  And then I had my own scare, losing my sight, and him there to guide me, to tell me everything would be okay.  He made me feel safe.
Later, when my mother became terminal, my dear friend, my ex-husband was there to take her to the doctor when I was too sick to do it.  He was there to comfort me and my mother, visiting her several times a week.
As I said, the friendship never ended.  And then one day we married again and out marriage became better than ever.
Now, he's gone, and I'm left with 18 years of memory.  18 years of loving him.  18 years of being loved.  And when I look into his daughter's eyes, I see him still.
He was the greatest blessing of all--a true gift from God.

that was great that the two of you got back together....was telling my SIL tonight that sometimes you have to lose someone before you know how much you really love them...and hopefully you can get back together...he\'s getting upset with my daughter and was talking with me, please keep them in your prayers....hope you continue doing well, remembering the good times and coping with the bad....hugs, Sandi

reminds me of the country song I heard the other day that was fitting for myself as well...\"I would have missed the pain but then I would have missed the dance..\"
What a blessing that your friendship remained and came together again in marriage. Hugs, Diane

We are lucky to have found our special someone. There are people like the ones you mentioned that never find their special partner. We are the blessed ones that is for sure. I feel doubly blessed having had Smokey for the short ten years and now Dave enters into my life & has changed my world. It is all good. My ex-husband never found another partner and he said he would never marry again. He is one person that is probably better off alone. He has our daughter Lisa in his life. He is happier this way and his two dogs. I am not one to be alone for very long. It is not surprising and is surprising in another way that I met Dave after Smokey had only been gone 9 months. In some ways I am still grieving for Smokey but happy with Dave. You can have both in your life. The grieving for the love of my life will take time. I am enjoying the happines I found with Dave. It is all good. You will have to do what makes you happy. You had 18 years with your husband. Are you open to any possibilities in the future or do you want to stay alone for the rest of your life. You are still young. These are my thoughts and opinions only from Diane Baillie

You hit it right on the head...I had a miserable first marriage and finally got out of it after 20 years. And then I met Buddy...how lucky was I, to be loved and give love like I had never known in my life. I would have missed that..and the pain I am in now is worth the 15 years of happiness and love I had with the man that made me complete...
