we are our routines and rituals

I saw a tiktok last night that talked about how 'we are our routines

and rituals' and 'we become them...so we better choose

good routines and rituals.' This really rung a bell for me

and I saw the wisdom in it for sure. I have created

routines for my work life and my keeping up with

my essentials in life..for self responsibility...but

I have so been avoiding excericse and for a while

there I was avoiding housework.

Well... I have got the house work done and

I am on top of it. But now I really have to take care

of myself physically. I am not getting any younger.
I'll be 55 this year and I need to lose weight and tone up

for sure. For both profilactic health reasons as well as

self confidence for when I look in the mirror.

I can do this!!

Pumpitude! :)

I'm also recognizing that much of what I go through most

mornings on the weekends (and to an extent during the week)

is that I don't really have a sense of excitement about my life

(though I am very very grateful to be alive) until

I feel like world starts to wake up as well.....does that make sense?

Anyways, both topics are making me question my motivation

and focus for what I hope to be 'getting out of my behaviors.'

I know in my time I tend to need to pump myself up into action

but I also guess I need to ask myself...what is it I hope to achieve...?

rather than just pure indulgence... Indulgence is ok -

but I want to look outside my mental health challenges

and really try to have a conscious sense of a kind of mission

if that makes sense? I could say it better...

Anyways I hope you guys have a good day.

I am really really grateful for this forum.

Sendings hugs and see you guys here online in a little bit! :)

Markus, good morning! I admit yesterday I was a total sloth. No routine, just plopped on the couch filling my brain with movies and tv. I needed it after a week of stressful work. I have some plans today and tomorrow that will get me going, but reflecting on what you say here……

Writing in community is helpful. It helps me process. I’m thinking you may benefit from structured projects « out there »…. and maybe you do and in compartmentalizing your life you don’t approach the subject here. I have started my Substack and it’s evolving into more, and it gives me a sense of having that « mission statement » about my life.

The mental health challenges are important to work around, understand, listen to ourselves when imbalances rise….but they are not all of us. There’s more to us than that. Living life outside of the diagnosis is important in order to rise to a place of sheer grace in order to accept and love ourselves.

I shyed away from so much when life in the mental slammer convinced me I was worthless. 20 years later, I’m finally climbing out from worthlessness and identifying who are my supporters and who truly cares about my well-being.

So I think when I think of routines and such, I have to incorporate not just making room for socializing and participation….but making it a part of my routine to try new things and meet new people. Part of my routine is navigating. And in that routine, navigating well and striving to locate the healthy, good stuff and healthy, good contacts.

I’m probably not making sense, but I think it’s important to understand that being Grounded is different than creating normalcy via routine. Routine is important, but it’s also important to keep a healthy energy alive and well to not let routine create stagnant depression and loop us into downward cycles.

Just my thoughts! Hugs.

For me and my grandson every day routines are important. We have fixed changing and feeding times. He dislikes any changes and becomes unstable and throws tantrums. It then takes time calming him down. So keeping routines is in my opinion a good thing and also keeps life in harmony..
