A Prayer From The Soul of WIdow
Dear Creator, who has created and un-created all that ever has been and all that ever will be, please open the ears of your heart and hear this one who humbly kneels before you with tears in her heart and soul:
I do not know why the one I loved was called to die and leave me to face this now empty world on my own. I cannot understand why it would be your "will" to rob this world and my heart of one who still had so much to offer and so much energy for living and the loving of life. I am told I am not to know now or ever will, but to accept. Acceptance is a hard thing to find when one is blinded with pain and grief.
I ask, even humbly beg, of you the following strengths to aid me along this path of emptiness and pain. You who are all powerful, as the anchor of my life has been taken from me, please grant me your help in facing this path day after day.
Please grant me peace: peace of mind, peace within my aching heart and empty soul. Please grant me peace so the painful memories of my loved one's suffering will soften and that my mind and heart will not be completely torn apart by what I witnessed as I held his hand, whispered comfort in his ear and stood by his side until his last breath in this world. Please grant me peace so these memories will lose the edge of dispair and be replaced by the love I hold for him then and now.
Please grant me strength of spirit that I may walk this path in solitude in a manner that would honor his life and that he would be proud of. Please grant me this strength that I may not sink forever into darkness but honor the gift of life that he fought so bravely to hold.
Please grant me patience and tolerance that I may be able to withstand the silly and sometimes hurtful things people say to me either out of ignorance or lack of compassion. Please help me to forgive them and not lodge their thoughtless comments in my heart or soul.
Please , also, grant me a kindness of spirit that I will not grow bitter and ugly from my sorrow. Please help me turn this sorrow into compassion and understanding for others. There is so much pain and sorrow on this Earth please help me turn my grief into good works and kindness for others.
And, please, grant me the strength and ability to make, keep and be friends to many. Please let friendship and love of others kindle a small light along this dark and lonely patch that I may see my way without falling. And, if it is your will, please let this little light lead me at last to acceptance.
Thank you for hearing this one and for any blessing of strength that you may be able to grant. Great Creator, please hear this one's prayer and open the ears of your heart.
Amen

Darlene-
This may be the most beautiful, and profound piece of writing I have EVER READ. Not only does this come straight from your heart, it echos each and every one us here at Ds. I know there is not one of us who havenm\'t \'talked\" to the powers that be (my terminology for the Creator), asked, and pleaded for understanding of what has yet to be understood by any of us. You have put every thought I have ever had in my head to paper.
Darlene, if you would be comfortable with it, I really think you should post this on the boards. There is not one person who cannot relate to this, learn fromj this, and take comfort from this.
Nick was a FORTUNATE man to have such a loving wife. I could see myself in the paragraph of you asking for peace as to watching those last breaths leave his body. This touched me so powerrfully.
I think the best word to describe this piece of literature (I think it truly is), is TRUTHFUL. I hope that power answers you.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS. Love, and m,any hugs Diane

We must look to God for strength. There is no other option that will bring us peace. Thank you for expressing so well..............our deep wishes.
We don\'t have much to give until we\'ve suffered greatly. So now with our extra compassion, love and understanding..........it is our turn to give.
I\'m sure God has heard your prayer. God bless you. Barbara
