A note about courage, to my friends
I want to get this message out, and I wish it were all over the media...all of us who must endure illness, disability, emotional and mental illness, lonliness...we everyday people, are the heros! Most of who you see being honored and getting all the attention on TV and in the news, are athletes and actors, and I agree that we should give praise for a job well done. But there is so much more bravery going on behind the scenes...often quietly...that no one ever hears about; even family members are many times blind.
My friend, Lynn, inspired me to write this, and also what I have been enduring inspired the thought, as well. I have Addison's Disease, but what really tortures me, is a lung condition. I spent too long in an extremely moldy apartment in the woods, nine years ago, and to this day, cannot breath well, have major trouble sleeping more than an hour or two, and have some days of constant gasping. Today is one, and I managed to: Do two loads of laundry, take out the trash and recycling, prepare lunch for Dad and I, and cook some cabbage for supper. I filled the dishwasher (sink piled high from an illness I'd had) and ran that. Just an average day for any homemaker, I know...but doing all that whilst gasping wildly, is a fete.
I'm not writing this to give myself a pat on the back (well, just a little!) but to show that there are thousands, millions like myself, and worse off, who live a challenge every single day! Let us pass out medals and cups to one another!! :))
