A new day has come..
Today was a really good day. I am two weeks sober. I went to therapy today and spoke about the breakdown I had before I decided to get sober. I told her about how I came clean about things in my childhood to my parents. We talked about how, although it was a bad situation, but because of it everything is now out in the open and I can finally move forward. Deciding to get sober has opened up SO many doors in my life. My parents finally have seen that horrible side of me that has been developing over thirteen years. My friends know that I am in treatment and have stopped inviting me out to drink, which makes me so happy. They are taking my sobriety seriously and that means so much to me. And in becoming sober, other friends that I just recently met have started inviting me out to do things other than drink. It just feels really good. For a long time, I thought that I wouldn’t have a social life if I was sober, but I realized that those sober friends really don’t want to be involved with someone to goes out and parties all the time. I feel like I am on the road to becoming the person I was always meant to be, and it feels really good. But what really makes me happy is that I met someone on this site who is going through EXACTLY what I am going through. We became such close friends in such a short amount of time, and we have really gotten each other through the hardest part of sobriety; those first couple of days. I feel really grateful for this site because it is how I met her, and I am really grateful that I have a friend like her! Today was the first therapy session where I didn’t run to the store afterwards and buy beer. I didn’t even think about it until I got home. That makes me really happy. Tomorrow I am meeting with a substance abuse counselor and Friday I am going to AA. My therapist said I am really doing an amazing job and I am on the right track. She can tell that I am dedicated to staying sober, but we also talked about that it’s okay if things don’t always stay on the right track. She says that sometimes we fall off or relapse and that’s okay. What matters is constantly trying to get back on the right path. I told her that I am really concerned about holidays because I always make plans to drink, but I told her that I am going to take one day at a time.
After my meeting, I am going to my school to get advised on the upcoming semester. I think with therapy, staying sober, going to the gym, and keeping a positive circle of people will help me prepare for going back to school. I only wanted to take one semester off to get my mental health in better shape, and I think that I am on the road to that. I want to be in a better mindset so I can get back to being a straight A student. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA and won a scholarship. I did so well, but after my dad got sick and got his leg amputated, I kind of went downhill. I stopped getting straight A’s, I had a hard time concentrating, I started missing school and I become really depressed. I lost my scholarship, had to drop some of my classes and eventually decided to take the next semester off. I don’t want to take a year off so I will be going back in January. I was never big on making New Year’s resolutions because I think they are silly, but I think this year I will make one..
My resolution for the upcoming year will be to do whatever I can to live a happy and sober life. Every day I will take a step closer to the life I always wanted to live. I’ve never been sober during the holidays, so that is my biggest obstacle, but I truly believe that if I continue to invite positivity into my life, I will be able to get through it.
But I have to be honest… this is the first day that I have felt better without alcohol. I feel healthy and happy and inspired.
It was just a really good day.. =)

wow! What a nice journal entry! You are absolutely right but you know, life is short, and we need each other to get over those nasty potholes in the road of life. It's impossible to do it alone and we see that when we drink ourselves blind! You see how good life can be when we are sober, wait till you get a little more sobriety behind you!
Things may not always be great and sometimes we hit a few bumps in the road but don't forget the tools you learned or are learning now, to help you get through those rough spots so you won't be triggered to drink.
Don't ever forget, there are all kinds of people willing to help, but you can't be afraid to ask!
God Bless

***There may be days when you get up in the morning & things aren't the way you had hoped they would be***
***That's when you have to tell yourself that things will get better*There are times when people disappoint you & let you down***
***But those are the times when you must remind yourself to trust your own judgments & opinions*to keep your life focused on believing in yourself***
***There will be challenges to face & changes to make in your life*it is up to you to accept them***
***Constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you*It may not be easy at times* but in those times of struggle you will find a stronger sense of who you are***
***So when the days come that are filled with frustration & unexpected responsibilities*remember to believe in yourself & all you want your life to be***
***Because the challenges & changes will only help you to find the goals that you know are meant to come true for you***
