A long week
Hello everyone,
Boy has it been a long week! We have not left the house all week and I really need a break. Saturday night we were both crying, Steve from the pain and me from watching him suffer. I called both of the children and asked them to pray. I fear that it is more than rib pain and Steve told me " we both knew it would come to this one day". Again I wonder if he has broken another rib by stepping into a little hole last week when we were having the concrete poured for the patio. It said it really jarred him. Or is it something else?? So long story short, palliative care told him to stay inside and have complete rest for this week.
I began to wonder if a lift chair could help him. I called a local furniture store to inquire about the cost of one and we know the owner and he said if this is for Steve? I will have one there in 30 minutes. I tried to tell him that he had never sat in one and we wanted to try it out. He told me he would have his men bring it back if it didn't work. Sure enough they came in less than 30 minutes!!! I told the delivery guy that I would call the the owner back and give him our credit card number. He then told me that the owner said keep it as long as it was needed!!! Steve called him and thanked him personally I was stunned at his kindness! He wanted no money for it and it really helps Steve get up and down. I will send him a card and if I can find out where he goes to church I will make a donation in his honor. People have been very kind and the palliative care people have been wonderful.
We have progressed from hydrocodone to oxicotton in a few months. It seems so fast.....
We live by the Grace of our Heavenly Father! and we pray for those others who are fighting......
Much love,
Wanda

Wanda,
what a wonderful testament to frienship and the LOVE that YOU and Steve have given over the years coming back to you now!!! I am just over the moon for you both knowing how you are loved!
My mom had a lift chair for many years and it helped tremendously when I was caring for her. I gave it to my BIL and it has been a real gift to their family. sharing the love? how does it get any better than that?
I know things are progressing and know you are savoring every moment with Steve. with all that is going on and all that may in the future. one thing you can always KNOW is just how much YOU AND HE ARE LOVED. Not by only wonderful friends who care so deeply, but by your entire DS family.
L:ove to you and to a wonderful day with Steve filled with precious love and joy at just being. Simply being. xoxoxo Diane
Sending loving thoughts and prayers for you & Steve! What a wonderful thing for the man at the furniture store to do! There truly are angels among us:-)
Love & hugs,
Lois
Wanda...I wish I was closer to you ..I would come over and give you the biggest hug I could. I am thinking of you and Steve and how happy your time has been together. Keep strong for him ..it will be hard but I know you can do it. Buddy and I spent many a night in bed and we would cry together. When he started sleeping in the bed provided by Hospice (it was easier for him to breathe) I was so frighten. I knew our time was getting near the end but I also knew Buddy\'s pain and suffering would also come to an end. He had done everything he wanted ...he had told everyone he loved his goodbye\'s and he was in his home and had me by his side...all the things he wanted. I am so grateful to the Hospice staff that were there for us and know they are Angels sent to us to be there is great times of need and comfort....Wanda ...you know I am always thinking of you and Steve...Bless you, Peace and Love...Hugs, Ellen
Wanda,
I also wish I was there, to hold your hand and just be there. What an awesome act of kindness from the man at the furniture store, a true act of paying it forward.
You and Steve are always in my prayers, and I pray for peace and the pain to ease for you both.
Luv and hugs from your Texas friend,
Annette
Hello Dear Wanda,
I\'m hurting for and with you and Steve. Such kindness is truly a special gift from God. We had one of those lift recliners for my father, and it made his quality of life much better. I pray it will do the same for Steve.
How I relate to staying in the house. The weather here has been brutal, and we know it\'s best that Ray stay in too. I cannot leave him alone, for fear of a sudden seizure....so we, too, are homebound. Ray did ride with me this morning, so I could do a few errands. That wore him out!
This is a very hard time for so many, Wanda. Please know that I\'m always here for you, and sending you much love, comfort, peace, and prayers.
My Love,
Ingrid
Dear Wanda, I am so sorry to hear about Steve\'s increased pain. I was hoping so much that it would be lessening. That walking accident in the yard must have rehurt his alrealdy bad rib. I hope it is just a temporary set-back. The story about the chair, brought tears to my eyes. I can understand how such a loving bit of kindness can brighten even the darkest of days. I know you and Steve are religious people and I think that jesture of kindness by the chair store owner, is a direct message from God that he loves Steve and is watching over him. Hang on to your faith, this story makes me feel quite encouraged about the goodness that is all around us.
Love, Linda
Dear Wanda,
During the hardest times, I would ask God and anyone else who would listen, why, why do bad things happen to good people, children, innocents? The ONLY answer that has ever even come close to making any sense to me (and it is cool comfort) is that these hardships, trials and tribulations BRING OUT THE GOODNESS IN OTHERS. True opportunities to do good works, and in your spiritual understanding be more Christ-like, more Christian to one another, come along now and again - too often perhaps - but like that store owner, we should take those opportunities. He showed real humanity, and he set an example his workers, and you and Steve will appreciate and not forget. Kindness begets kindness. Like Steve, Tommy lived a life worth while because he was so easy to love and did right by others - that was repaid ten times over.
I pray the drugs do their magic and that you both have peaceful days and nights..........

Dear Wanda, The kindness of the man who gave Steve the chair shows so much of his true heart. There are wonderful people in the world. I pray that Steve\'s pain will be relieved and the God showers you both with mercy, comfort and peace...
Rachel
Thank you everyone. The comments bring me such comfort. We are doing ok today, I ran to the drugstore and did a few errands. I spoke with Steve several times by phone and he was talking to some friends on the phone. God bless all of you, my special friends.
Wanda
Thank you Carol. I still have your number.
Much love, Wanda
Like so many others have already said I wish I could be with you right now. I dont think any words can say any more than soneone just being there, hugging, and understanding. Just know I am thinking of you and I said a prayer for you both.
thank you sweet Angie!
Hello Wanda not been in touch for a while because Ive not been too good and been in hospital a while- almost recovered now. I am so sorry to hear about the pain Steve is going through and hope God will keep you both strong to deal with what life throws at you. It isv so heartwarming to hear about people who offer help with no benefit to themselves. Pleas keep us updated. Prayers for you both as always x
Dearest Wanda - so sorry i\'m so late to this, but I want you to know that I so understand the awfulness of watching our beloveds in pain. I sincerely hope that it has eased over this week.
What a lovely story about the chair. Kindness makes the biggest difference, and warms up our sad hearts a little.
This is a hard hard journey. Holding your hand across the ocean Wanda, with very much love, Meriel
Wanda, if all of us who want to be there for you, to hold your hand, or to give you a big hug, you\'d have one heck of a household. So I\'ll send the thought via this post. You have so many friends there and here that are pulling for you two. I am glad that the chair is helping, No one knows how hard it is to simple get up when your ribs hurt. Thoughts and praysers coming your way.....Love ya both Jane
