A Great Christmas

The bellys are stuffed, the dishes washed, and Christmas dinner is over.  Yes, I made it through my first Christmas without my husband.
It was a great day, cold, with two inches of fresh snow.  The snow was a concern at first because my stepdaughter was coming over and I was concerned about road conditions.  Nevertheless, she said they would be  fine and came over about two hours later.  That's when we women got together--my stepdaughter and I-- cooking away in my tiny kitchen.  That girl is such a blessing, I could cry.
Later, we sat around, watching the children open their presents and watching football on TV.  My husband was missed and I couldn't help  but look at my dear little one year old grand-daughter who will never know the great man her grandfather was.
But then, my stepdaughter told me a story about looking at a picture of  her father and my granddaughter walked up and said, grandpa.  It warms my heart.
Anyhow, Merry Christmas to everyone on DS.

it sounds like you made the best of Christmas under the circumstances:) that\'s all we can do and you did it! most of our grief journey is just one step at a time and it sounds like today was a great step. You got through a HUGE \"first\" and that\'s a wonderful accomplishment. Wishing you peace in this new year.

So glad you had a nice Christmas.... like you, this was my first Christmas without Bob. I am thankful I made it.

I think you always need to tell stories and show pictures of your wonderfull husband to the grandkids... He will not be forgotten.

It is so wonderful that you had a nice Christmas. Mine was good until everyone went home. Only three but I thank God for each of them.
I am off to be baptized. My SIL is going to church with me. I am hoping that she will fall in love with the people there like I did & want to join or at least attend now & then. Love, Val

I am glad you had a wonderful Christmas. Your step-daughter sounds like a wonderful woman. Christmas should not be spent alone that is for sure. It is Boxing Day today. We made it thru Christmas which is a good thing. Mine was spent with Dave and my older brother Don. It was really enjoyable that is for sure and everything turned out great. All the best from Diane B on Boxing Day 2010.
